This stuff is particularly difficult for musicians. For students in most music programs, this is the only way they are allowed to perform. They are not virtue signaling. They are trying to comply with whatever is asked so they can continue to practice and perform. Not everyone is "taking a side." Most are just trying to get by until their lives can resume.

Singers, concert musicians and the like are required to wear masks and practice far apart, in smaller groups and in giant empty spaces to spread themselves out even further when they are allowed to be together. Many are still on zoom.

Weird my comment went away, it didn't violate any rules. It's perfectly understandable that musicians want to get back to performing but they should just do it without masks because what's in those pictures is ridiculous

Well, I think pilots wearing gold bar ranks on their "uniforms" and wings on their shirts look a lot of "look at me" - don't need them to fly the plane. See, we can all play the what you're wearing looks ridiculous. Let the kids do what they need to do.

So because pilots have an established system for showing their rank we should all have to wear masks? I'm really struggling following your logic here. TBH though I have struggled to follow a lot of the logic on CV19 so it could just be something that I'm too simple to understand.

The answer is there is no scientific purpose. It's just to keep the panic in the front of everyone's mind. Literally a piece of fear flare at that point.
