Significant change in recommendation for testing of those without symptoms and with or without confirmed exposures.

TL;DR The CDC is no longer recommending testing if you don't have symptoms, and is recommending consulting with your doctor before getting a test if your symptoms are mild.

Is A&M going to follow these recommendations, or push forward with their mandatory randomized student testing...?

You have to slow the testing down

So now that we've moved on to positivity rates as the metric of success, we are going back to testing only symptomatic people?

Seems this would increase the percent positive rates which most states are using as their opening up metric, which does not make sense.

Maybe states should look at different metrics. Like hospitalizations. Or CLI syndromic survey data. The latter is the best early indicator.

Will tamp down the "number of cases" which is good

I think there needs to be more frequent, cheaper, at home tests being approved.
Catch people before they return to work/school/activities.

Shift the money spent on masks and cleaning products to cheap, at home tests.

But that discussion can happen in the Saliva COVID 19 thread.

Yes, please don't do anything to study and learn more about this novel virus. Its prevalence in a large student body (the largest in the USA) couldn't possibly be of any usefulness. I especially don't want any sort of study being done at a prestigious public research university.

They should, but they probably won't. Young is looking for any excuse to shut campus down. With thousands of tests, just the false positives will look like a huge number. This whole thing is just a fishing expedition for false positives and support for going back to all online.

My son is a freshman. If he gets the "you've been selected to test" email, I'm instructing him to refuse. Based on CDC reccomendations, of course.

It will now shift to "positivity rate", which now will be actually higher because you are testing only sick people. All the while, "cases" are plummeting, as are "hospitalizations" which are both flawed numbers, as well.

Young wants the campus shut down. He is fishing for any reason to do so. He and Fierke just can't stand themselves.

HCQ / Zinc only works if given early....also don't bother getting tested until you exhibit symptoms.

Makes sense.

Do you get tested for the flu when you don't have symptoms? What about strep? Or RSV? Or any other virus?

Testing just to test makes literally no sense...

You're fooling yourself if you actually believe that is the goal to this testing program. It isn't about studying the virus. It's what they will do with that information that is of concern, and it sure as hell is not for academic purposes. It's almost embarrassing to think that.

Sylvester Turner has been BEGGING people to go get tested. After all, they might not be able to later this week if we get a hurricane.

How can he possibly think that's a good way for people who don't have symptoms to use their time in the last days before potential tropical weather?

From Twitter: "Please go and get tested Monday/Tuesday in preparation for Hurricane season. You need to know your status for yourself, family members and friends." st

Wasting testing capacity to test kids that are going back to college is causing this.

You don't need to test healthy, non-symptomatic people going to situations where everyone will be non-symptomatic.

Not testing helps get herd immunity as it will help spread this a little faster to those that will barely get a sniffle.
