I had a buddy claim they've trained some canines to detect the infection. I've heard of cancer sniffing dogs but this seems a little far fetched. Has anyone heard about this?

I have no clue if it's true, but I assume it's possible. I heard some podcast about a women who could smell Parkinson's and Alzheimer's in people, often years before it was diagnosable. She can reliably smell how
many years people have had the diseases.

Absolutely crazy story:

I read an article awhile back about dogs that could smell cancer in human bodies.

Some measures of dog smell report that a dog can detect a strong odor at as low as 1 to 2 parts per trillion.

When a person has COVID, their immune system responds by making antibodies, T-cells, cytokines, and other proteins to respond to the virus. I would not be surprised at all if one or some combination of these are breathed out by a COVID patient with sufficient strength to be detected by a well trained dog. So, I doubt they have the ability to smell the actual virus, but could likely be good detectors of changes in people's immune systems when infected.

Just a couple more years of this while we ramp up production of beagles, then we gotta train them and distribute them equally. Back to normal before you know it.

My wife's doctor in a conference call with her patients, spoke of a paper/research from Germany that concluded dogs can be fairly easily trained to sniff out covid cases.

It's definitely possible. A friend of my wife's has a dog that can tell when she is going to have a seizure somehow.
