Wife woke up this morning with a partial loss of taste but otherwise completely healthy including smell. I haven't kept up with all the specific symptoms but know this is one. I'd assume if it was the China virus she'd most likely have other symptoms? Have there been a significant # of cases where this is literally they only symptom?

It is definitely recognized as a symptom, even in isolation of loss of smell, of COVID-19, and I would certainly assume that she has it.

i know people who got it where a runny nose, loss of smell, and mild fatigue were the only symptoms

the runny nose and fatigue resolved in a few days

the loss of smell has persisted for a month now. at first total, now still partial

Going back to having had two nose surgeries, both where they packed the nose and sinuses full of gauze, I couldn't taste a damm thing without being able to smell. I always associated sense of taste with the sense of smell because of that experience.

When my wife was positive with Covid I lost both smell and taste, no other symptom at all, but I couldn't smell a bottle of Mentholatum right under my nose. It is better now, 3 months later, but not fully recovered. I never tested, just isolated. Wife only lost taste and smell for about a week and has come back full. Me not so much.

Wife got two tests done yesterday mainly cause we have plans later this week. rapid result 20 min test via urgent care paid out of pocket that's not as accurate came back negative yesterday. Also got the one the county is providing which said 3-5 day turn around but got the results this morning as well as negative so we're feeling pretty good now.

When I had it. The loss of taste/smell was pretty significant. I could be standing over the bbq put inhaling the smoke and not smell anything. Taste was same way. Very weird. Different than when congested or a cold and it's is diminished. This was absolutely blank.

Each day as I recovered I would test it with different smells throughout the day, cinnamon, menthol, fancy foaming soaps my wife puts at every sink, bleach in laundry room.

When it started to come
Back I could notice hints of the smell, pick up different notes but very muted.

Taste came back as just being able to taste salty or sweet, very basic taste within 1 week I had full taste but smell took nearly 2 weeks from loss to come back

I lost most of my sense of smell about thirty years ago from what appeared to be the flu. Over time, some of my sense of smell has come back, but it is very unreliable. There were also a couple of phantom smells that showed up occasionally.

In May, my sense of smell went crazy one day. Instead of going away, I was smelling all kinds of things, many of which I had no words to describe because I hadn't smelled anything like that before. Also, the couple of phantom smells were strong that day. After a few hours, it went back to normal.

So the next morning I got tested for covid but only because I had made an appointment for it the day before. With my sense of smell back to normal, I felt completely fine. The test came back positive.

I've seen a few patient's with isolated loss of taste/smell. If she can't taste a jalapeno she prob has it.

In the positive cases we still have, loss of taste seems to be less prevalent than it was in March & April.

My niece lost her sense of smell yesterday.

She said that it really presented a problem because now she can't tell from smell when she needs to change the baby's diaper.
