Anyone have a citation on percentage of asymptomatic spread.

And, a range for symptoms to develop relative to ability to shed the virus. Like, you can shed for up to X hours before showing symptoms. Trying to establish some kind of risk factor for my in-laws.

CDC puts out data for planning scenarios: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html

Quick take aways:
  • 40% of cases may be asymptomatic. Doesn't mean no risk of transmission, but less as a consequence of less or no sneezing, coughing, etc.
  • Asymptomatic may be around 75% as infectious as symptomatic, but ranges widely (25% - 50%)
  • There's likely also something to the level of virus (viral load) that both results in an asymptomatic or "nearly" symptomatic case, and correspondingly that person sheds.
  • Exposure to symptom onset takes on average ~6 days.
  • Secondary infections take another ~6 days on average to present symptoms.

The WHO earlier put out that asymptomatic was highly unlikely. It angered people who benefited from the fear so they had to change their statement.
