Yes I realize this isn't a journal or anything, just a statement from the NFL CMO, but it's good news. No evidence of transmission of covid-19 on the sports field for any sports around the world.

I just wish leaders would act based on science and not fear. My sports leagues here in Denver were cancelled due to an increase in covid cases, which is asinine as physical activity boosts the immune system and relieves stress.

Couple that with people staying indoors more and low on vitamin D, is it any wonder we have increases in cases all around the world now that winter is here?

It also casts serious doubts in the usefulness of masks outside in public, especially when distanced from other people.

Given how the viral load will be diffused and diluted into almost nothing outdoors, this is expected.

Son's soccer team did skills and PT over Zoom during the summer. Since then they have 2x weekly training and games. They wear masks while entering training/playing grounds but not while training or playing. 18 kids on the roster; games are 22 (obviously) on the field plus subs from both sides. No one on his team has contracted Covid (knock on wood) this season. His club keeps the training teams separate and I do believe wearing the masks while transitioning is helpful; especial during games when you have multiple teams and families milling about outside. We do know some teams had players sit out; players not whole teams; because of exposure and/or actually contracting the Covid.

He also goes to the high school everyday for soccer; same thing with the mask but they also self report any symptoms. Couple kids have had to quarantine; which is good that it appears everyone is being honest about contact tracing and if someone in home has Covid.

so far so good...

Now I tell you this really to set up this note. He went to a camp last month here in North Texas. 5 or 6 kids at the camp flew in from Los Angeles, CA. They had not played a single game since March. My son has played easily 30+. They have started practicing but still no scrimmages and they are not allowed to touch, even with their feet, anyone else's soccer ball.

If we treat the disease seriously and actually take precautions and follow the guidelines we can move along like normal which is what my son's club team, soccer league and high school has been doing. IMHO we don't need to go to either extreme and ignore it (like many here like to suggest) or lock down over it (like CA).

Why people go jogging or bike riding or walking in the park with a mask on is beyond me. I carry one with me. When I approach a group I can't distance from I put it on.

Once the initial unknown factors were cleared up the solution has still been the same; wash your hands, don't touch your face, wear a mask when you can't be distant.
