My wife went to an outdoor birthday party yesterday. She was just called by another guest who lost sense of smell last night and tested positive this morning. They were outside but were all within 6 feet and no masks. How long does she need to be cautious and when can she test to see if she has it.

Why get tested? Protocol is 14 day quarantine.

Fourteen day quarantine. If she tests prior to the end of quarantine and is negative, she could still show symptoms after the test.

I thought they changed the guidance to a 10 day quarantine.

I believe that's only if you test positive. 10 day quarantine from onset of symptoms. Close contact exposure is 14 days. Living with a positive person but not positive yourself gets you 24 days (10 for the symptoms, 14 days for exposure).

Reduces, yes, but realistically it doesn't clear her. It also would have been when the positive person was most contagious. In your situation, I wouldn't try to work around the quarantine at all if that's what you're trying to figure out. There's still a chance she won't get sick, but it's not low enough to push normal activities.
