Nope. The virus is not the same as it was in the spring. And we are two weeks past the spiking, where are all the deaths?cone said:

Not talking about NYC.cone said:
what do you mean nope
at the outset of the nyc outbreak they were still putting people on ventilators
I'm glad Houston avoid that for sure
Budesonide works okay. But y'all will never admit the virus is not the same.cone said:
It was worth the delay to find out dexamethasone works decently
The point is that masks and social distancing have nothing to do with anything. Unless Floridians are magically immune.cone said:
is the Florida virus different than the one currently wreaking havoc in the Midwest?
I don't understand the point. The Sunbelt had a lot of advantages getting their wave in the summer. Learned experience being one of them.
NYC unfortunately had bull**** advice from China and Italy's panicked response and not much else. Lots of mistakes were made.
NYC had pretty strict mask and social distancing requirements. Why the difference from Florida?cone said:
clearly NYC is germane to the discussion since it's in your OP graph

And they do not work. You can not stop the spread of a respiratory virus. Obviously wearing masks and social distancing mean little or Florida would be worse than Illinois, correct?ORAggieFan said:
I agree with you on cases. But, if the government measures worked, Ill would be way better off than FL. That's all this shows.
Actually the IFR will be lower than that and is inflated from when the virus was more virulent in the spring.cone said:
so it's got a IFR in the 0.5% range and is hyper infectious
is that supposed to make it better?
I don't think masks work very well. I think social distancing certainly helps.
So what are the death rates in Illinois? Positive cases mean nothing.cone said:
I'll reserve judgement until Florida gets into the same winter conditions Illinois started seeing a month or so ago
personally I'm rooting for the mildest winter ever
Sure you can. Just need to understand that positive tests mean nothing. And that is a high hurde to get over.cone said:
