Not much info given in this article. It didn't mention ages of kids, either. Big difference between a 15 year old and a 2 year old. I still think that if it were true that kids spread Covid easily, we would see huge breakouts in elementary schools and daycares. We haven't seen that at all, and social distancing doesn't come naturally at ALL to little kids.

It's anecdotal and not at all necessarily a representation of how common an issue it is, but I personally know a family who's kid got it from daycare. Their kid tested positive for COVID a couple days later, and a couple days after that everyone in the house tested positive. No idea if the spread via children is the same from a rate of transmission standpoint, but it does happen.

Also should note many other kids at the daycare also caught COVID - don't know the extent beyond that.

Our 2 year old has been in daycare from the beginning and our 6&5 year olds have been in elementary since September. We've known one kid that tested positive.

Counterpoint. I know someone who has their kid at daycare. One of the Mom's tested positive. Her husband and daughter who attends the daycare never got ill and tested negative. And nobody at the daycare either.

Our three year old has been in daycare all year. We get emails every time there is some exposure. Two or three teachers have gotten it from other places and been in the classroom post-exposure but before testing positive and no children got it from them. Teachers don't wear masks in the classroom and physical contact between them and the kids is normal.

Skimmed the paper and I'm not buying that.
Currently, I'm convinced of three things that point the other way:
1. Asymptomatic carriers (not including pre-symptomatic) aren't responsible for much spreading,
2. Most children are asymptomatic,
3. We've just not seen large outbreaks in daycares or schools.

I'm not sure what the cutoff is. If 15 year olds become spreaders while 14 year olds aren't, who knows? But for elementary school and below, we aren't seeing this play out whatsoever.

god Fauci just announced today that children are not vectors.

Germany already discovered that months ago, but the US election was not over.

Anecdotal but my buddy from A&M just tested positive, with his kiddo being the most likely source. Reportedly it's going through the preschool.

Why not just look at schools that are releasing the numbers? Elementary and middle school kids rarely spread it but high school aged do.

Not a single kid in my kid's Montessori school has gotten Covid.

All I know is kids have been bringing colds and flu home from school for as long as we've had schools.

A few years ago when my brother and his family were living with my parents while their new home was being built, they all (the entire household) stayed sick the entire winter. Cold and flu season had hit the schools hard and it just kept coming to the house.

Not sure how this is news. Kids have always been virtual little petri dishes.

Did I miss something where it indicated where the positive result students were determined to have contracted COVID? Here in Hutto, as of a few weeks ago the district sent out an email about the high school which said that out of the 14 students who tested positive, contract tracing determined that none of them contracted it at school.

My wife is a teacher in elementary school (K-5), son is in middle school and daughter a senior at high school.

All cases at my wife's school have been teachers/staff and apparent exposure outside of the school. Same goes for most of the other elementary schools.

Cases start to rise and students start showing up as reported cases as you get to middle schools. Both high schools show more student exposure.

My un-educated and certainly own opinion is this thing starts to impact those around 12/13 and up. I think my exposure is from my son who had one day of 100 fever and nothing else, but that just happened to be within the 7 day window of me testing positive.
