Those of you that had Covid and lost your taste or smell, how long did it take for it to come back? Of the symptoms, this is the most frustrating.

3 days. Although I also lost my appetite so this didn't really matter to me.

On the plus side, I lost 10 to 15 lbs during my week of covid + month of shrunken stomach...and now I've now gained it back since gyms are mostly closed and it's cold outside.

3 or 4 weeks for me. Was getting a little worried.

The corona bros should play this up more. If I knew there was a possibility of permanently losing 2 of my senses I would made more than a half ass attempt to keep from getting it.

5 days to get partial back, 2 weeks for 100%

This was the worst part of having Covid for me, the rest was nothing

Damn. Did it come back gradually, or was it sudden when it finally did?

Had it in August and still hasn't come back all the way. But had no other symptom than this.

My taste and smell came back about 15 days after symptom onset.
It took 4-6 weeks for my wife's taste and smell to return.
It is for sure emotionally difficult to lose taste and smell

For 3 weeks smell was 100% gone. I'm now nearly 4 months out and it is getting close to fully returned, probably 80-90% back..

Taste was never really an issue for me.

Been a month now, week 2 everything tasted horrible but I also had a 102-103 fever every day, by week 3 most of my my sense of smell left, primarily the taste of sweets or salt.

My coffee is tasting somewhat normal today, I'd say I have 50% of my taste back. Certain flavors I can't taste at all.

Lost most taste and smell on Thursday, completely gone by Friday. Tested positive today (Saturday).

Friday is considered day 1. So, I'm on day 2 of no taste/smell. This thread makes me think I'm going to be dealing with this for a while.

Only other symptom is nasal congestion that moves into my ears at night. Felt like I had a lump in my throat on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I thought it was allergies. Allergy pills do help with the congestion.

I didn't lose it, but it got really strange for a few hours.

Note: I lost most of my sense of smell around 1990 and it has gradually come back to a limited extent. It isn't strong at all. For a long time, the only food that had any flavor at all was Indian food.

The screwy changes I got when I had covid seemed to be far stronger than anything I've smelled since 1990.

I'm curious what loss of taste and smell actually means to everyone.

I first noticed diminished smell and taste, not a sudden onset total loss.

Thursday, I could still smell certain scents and I could partially taste what I had for lunch. I associated the fluctuations in taste and smell to the fact that I was taking Sudafed to help relieve the nasal congestion. It seemed like when the congestion was relieved, taste and smell were better.

Since Friday morning, I have not been able to taste anything. However, I can distinguish between salty, sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, and minty foods.

Smell has been nearly completely gone since Friday, too, except I can occasionally get a whiff of strong scents like garlic powder, peppermint, and clove. Over the past few days, I've basically sniffed everything in my pantry.

Ultimately, the total loss of taste is what prompted me to get tested. I've had have colds that affected my taste and smell before, but I don't remember my sense of taste ever being totally obliterated.

Same here.

Thursday things just tasted "off". Friday from lunch forward, I couldn't taste or smell anything. Although somehow I can discern sweet, salty, spicy just not tell you what flavor it is.

Only other symptom is some extremely minor nasal congestion which is magnitudes less than when I have a cold.

No fever, in fact I was 96.2 degrees last night before bed.

I've been on a daily regimen of querecetin(sp?), zinc and Vit D, since mid-august. Only thing I can think is that it's mitigated the severity. Going in for a test today and obviously if it's positive I'll stay away from everyone but with the way I feel, it really seems silly to do anything out of the norm.

Your symptoms sound almost identical to mine.

My congestion has also been minor. I've had colds that were much worse. I did a 45 min HIIT workout and walked 5 miles yesterday before I got tested. No fever, aches/pains, cough, or fatigue.

Despite the fact that I feel fine, I am going to isolate for 10 days from the first onset of symptoms (which would be Thursday, since that's when I first noticed any problems with taste/smell). I did work from home on Thursday and Friday, out of "an abundance of caution", which obviously was the right call.

My son also has to isolate, since we live together and he's been exposed. He's just going to finish out the semester at home, since the earliest he could go back is the 16, and the last day is the 18th.

Three coworkers that I had lunch with on Wednesday have to quarantine/WFH for 14 days.

The concern is that, even though my symptoms are mild, I could give it to someone who develops worse symptoms. It's pretty clear to me that I got it from someone who had either very mild or no symptoms.

I've taken vitamin D for probably 8 years, but I don't take zinc. But I'm relatively young (42) and healthy.

I was concerned the people I interacted with last week would be upset with me (particularly my coworkers and the two families my son carpools to/from band practice with), but everyone has been really great.

I lost my taste and smell exactly a month ago yesterday. My smell is still completely gone. I smell my deodorant every morning to see if it improves but I get nothing.

My taste used to be completely gone, but as of about 2 weeks ago I can taste sweetness, saltiness, spicy, etc. I can't taste any flavoring whatsoever.

It's frustrating to say the least but I've gotten used to it. When it first happened, it really bummed me out to feel like I had a couple of life's small pleasures taken away from me.

Sense of smell mostly back after about 7 days. Completely back after 14 days.

Day 15 and I still don't have full taste back. Can taste some things better than others. Had some white wine last night, and it didn't taste like much of anything. Other flavors are muted.

Smell is better than taste, but still not great. I cooked several things yesterday and only smelled them very faintly.

Apparently losing taste and smell is not without its own unique advantages.

I woke up yesterday with mild cold symptoms (runny nose, slight cough, no fever or fatigue). Today, I have zero taste or smell. I stuck deodorant up my nose and can't smell a thing. I'm guessing it's Covid, I've never had a complete loss with a cold.
