Russian officials are warning citizens to avoid alcohol for two months after receiving the country's COVID-19 vaccine tough-to-swallow news for one of the world's heaviest-drinking countries.

The warning came from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova, who said in an interview that Russians will have to observe extra precautions during the 42 days it takes for the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to become effective.

"Russians will have to refrain from visiting crowded places, wear face masks, use sanitizers, minimize contacts and refrain from drinking alcohol or taking immunosuppressant drugs," Golikova told TASS News Agency.

I was wondering the same thing. I might take my chances with the rona if that's the case with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

The skeptic in me wonders that IF the Sputnik V vaccine is not as effective as they claim, you would want the population to avoid behaviors that could increase the chance of being exposed to coronavirus. This would help to give the illusion of decreasing cases as a result of the vaccine.

Sure this has nothing to do with the decreasing expected average death age due to drug and alcohol use. Russia claimed to have cut their drinking by one third before Covid and now they say it is up about 70%. The only part of the population growing is the Muslim population and that has many politicians scared.

On a medical note alcohol and alcoholism can make Covid worse since it weakens your immune system and causes a massive amount of inflammation in your body. Not to mention the empty calories and higher blood sugar levels than can lead to diabetes

Yeah I'm guessing there are public health goals unrelated to the vaccine that they are trying to sneak in. Although my initial assumption is that their vaccine would be formulated in vodka anyway
