I'm trying to advise my folks as to when they can resume close contact with their elderly parents.

Symptoms began on 11/9
Positive PCR tests on 11/11 and 11/16
Negative PCR tests on 11/24
Only remaining symptoms are mild fatigue and mild nighttime congestion

Everything i read makes me think they are well beyond any contagious period (>10 days post symptom onset, no fever, improving symptoms, negative PCR test 15 days ago). Any reason they can't resume close contact with their 'dependent' elderly parents?

Just curious as to your thoughts?

TIA

I agree with your logic re: timeline, especially now that we're in the second week of December but with the caveat I'm not a medical professional and do not have experience with the "typical" course of symptoms and infectiousness.

I saw this a while back and if nothing else it helped to visualize relative risk profile over time.

Yeah that's pretty consistent with what I had seen. Seems 10-14 days post symptom onset (for non-severe cases) is more or less the maximum for the infectious period.

We've been using 21 days for people with lingering symptoms like cough and fatigue. For instance, an onset on 12/1 would be cleared 12/22 if all other symptoms resolved except for things like that. Of course, things like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and shortness of breath are assumed to be contagious as long as those symptoms are present.

Either that or we order an antibody test. If they are past 2 weeks, feeling almost normal and have positive IgM antibodies then I'll clear them quicker

Thanks for the reply. The more i read/hear, the more i feel like they are well beyond even the most conservative timelines. Negative PCR tests and ~10 days beyond your 21 days from onset of symptoms.
