Hey guys, I haven't lost tasted or smell but for the last month or so things have started to smell differently, which is weird because my food tastes the same. Talked to a buddy & he said he has had a similar experience but his has gone on for a couple months now. I haven't ever had any covid symptoms & actually tested positive for antibodies back in July. Just curious but has anyone experienced anything similar? Not a big deal colored to some others experience that I've heard & read but mainly just wondering when my sense of smell may get back to normal. Thanks

I think I had it about 6 months ago and one of my symptoms was losing sense of taste. Completely. It took 8 to 10 weeks to come back and I thought I was in the clear, but things still don't taste like I remember them. And the first taste sensation to come back was "sweet." We know it affects different people differently but it may also affect different cells in the taste buds of the tongue slightly differently, too.

Taste is still off 3 weeks after last symptoms.

Taste was the only lingering symptom I had. The others were resolved within the same two-and-a-half-week time period.

It took 3 weeks for smell to fully return for me. A friend took 5 weeks.

I'm on day 13 since onset of symptoms, and my only symptoms were loss of taste and smell (no fever or cough).

Both have returned, but to a limited degree. I can smell some things, but there is no rhyme or reason to it.

For example, I can smell my perfume, but I can't smell the cinnamon tea I'm drinking. And the tea has a VERY strong cinnamon smell.

Similarly, I can taste some things but not others. It was getting better, but I feel like it's regressed the past couple of days (meaning I can taste less than I could over the weekend).

It's definitely a very strange symptom.

If you had it in July or before, and just now you are having taste and/or smell issues, it is probably something else. And at that, with allergies going on, colder temps which alone reek havoc on my sinuses (I get drainage, sore throats etc most cold snaps and never get "sick") and other bugs common to winter out there, I'd rule out Covid side effects.

July is just when I got my antibodies test done. I actually felt like I had a cold back in May (which may have been covid). With reports of antibodies only lasting 3 months, I think there is a chance I may have contracted it again.

Not likely. Some antibodies (IgA & IgM) may only last for 3 months, but others (IgG) likely last much longer. You would also have T-Cells. With the extremely low odds for Covid reinfection, I would look for a different explanation.

Various other viruses and sometimes allergies can affect smells. (Stated above too)
