I think a poster on this board named Redstone said that he had it before anyone ever had it, and then he got it again before anyone else ever got it again. You might PM him.

For a serious answer, my cousin says he has had it twice (spring and fall). Said tested positive both times. Lost taste/smell both times. First go was about 14 days of symptoms, second about 7-8. Said first bout was definitely worse than second.

Classmate from A&M got it a second time last week. First time, early March, had her in the hospital for supplemental O2 and took her close to 4 months to be back to breathing normally. Second time she was symptom free in 6 days.

I had my annual checkup with my primary care Doctor last week, and she said she has a couple of patients on their third go round. March, July, and now.

Lots of people have. Been reading about them for quite a while - certainly for longer, and more cases, than anyone else on this board.

There have been about 200 reinfection cases worldwide. And about 10 of those posted here apparently.

where'd this 200 number come from?

and why would reinfection be necessarily remarkable?

Mid-October was the first recorded case in US. They should have checked with Texags first!

well I know a Houston doctor who diagnosed a reinfection last week and it wasn't a big deal and wasn't reported to the media as far as I know

first case was in NY in March, second one local

nine months of apparent immunity sounds about right

Reinfection will happen, I just wonder if there's a couple other things going on in some of these cases reported here. These two are the most likely:
1. False positives (Nick Saban)
2. People can continue testing positive for months after initial infection:

I know someone who has had it twice. First time just lost taste/smell. Unsure of symptoms 2nd time around.

Reading about it on some of the official websites and studies, it seems to be unlikely, but not impossible.

From what I understand, the official proven reinfections are ones that are limited to mostly heavy travelers that could prove through blood tests that it was different genetic strains. There's not many of those.

There are some places counting reinfections as a known positive, known negative, known positive test with at least a month fully symptom free in between, but that also seems like a lot of data that people wouldn't have.

I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to find out COVID-19 cells are getting activated during a common cold which is why people are testing positive again. I've been sick three times so far this year testing negative for COVID or tested negative for antibodies (and not spreading COVID to close contacts afterwards which makes me believe the tests) so other bugs are out there. I don't think we'll know for awhile if reinfection ends up being prevalent.

So many false positives it's hard to tell if they really had it twice.

But the bottom line is it is extremely rare, except among TexAgs posters.
