Was with someone at a wedding Friday evening. Close contact.

Individual started experiencing symptoms Sunday and tested positive Monday.

My understanding of CDC guidelines would be I now can end quarantine after 7 days with a negative test taken day 5 or later.

So if I was exposed Friday evening, am I good to get tested tomorrow? Can I get a rapid test (assuming my work is good with a rapid test)?

Not a doctor but I would wait at least 7 days from exposure to take a test as a false negative is more likely before 7 days

CDC guidelines now say you only have to quarantine for 7 days if you test negative after 5 days of quarantine.

This is what our school district is using. You can return to school after 7 days of quarantine if you have a negative test result from a test administered after 5 days of quarantine.

So, indirectly, this suggests you should wait at least 5 days after exposure to get tested.

Our school is requiring a PCR test as part of the test after day 5 guidelines. The thought process is you test on day 5 and get the results back on day 7 so that gives you another 2 days to possibly show symptoms. They are using Austin Public Health disseminated guidelines.

If I were doing rapid myself and work was okay with it, I would do rapid on Day 7 to return to work. Rapid is best used to confirm a positive case, not to rule out a negative case. It's going to perform the worse when no symptoms are present.
