Wife and oldest are leaving town for a few days (already have Covid the last 1-3 months), and went to test for antibodies today. Only took 20 minutes to get the results, both tested negative for the antibodies?

Are these tests pretty accurate? Surprised at the results.

Tough to say without knowing the test, but antibody tests are available which have good sensitivity and specificity.

Did they have PCR confirmed cases?

Both tested positive, wife after I tested positive and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. We all definitely had it.

My blood work while in the hospital (week 2) already showed the antibodies.

There is also evidence to suggest some people may rapidly lose detectable antibodies after infection. From my reading it seems this is far from concluded but there are a number of studies indicating it could be happing in a number of people. But as has been discussed on here, loss of antibodies does not necessarily mean loss of immunity. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6947a2.htm

We all had the virus in mid August, no symptoms really. Wifa has been getting tested since September for the antibodies, she was doing something where they draw blood. Always came back that she had them.

A clinic near the house started advertising a "rapid" test for antibodies, so she decided to go there as it was close and cheap. She took that test in late Nov, and she came back negative for the antibodies. Pissed her off, so she went for the blood test again a few days later. Came back positive.

Why? How? Or what this means I have no idea. Just more uncertainty I guess.

Interesting, thanks guys. Our youngest has it now, been sick 3-4 days so I guess i'm about to find out if this immunity thing works.

LabCorp had a test where they did a blood draw and you got the results a few days later. I would try that if you really want to know. If it is the same as the other results then maybe the antibodies are gone.

Friend had it in March, got another antibody test recently. Still showing strong.
