I think it's HIGHLY irresponsible for news sources to print this stuff until there are more facts.
You want to opine that drinking beer is good/bad for you? Fine.
However, this COVID crap is a different deal. Don't fan the flames unnecessarily.

There has been a lot of irresponsible reporting on science this year from basically every outlet. It's caused me to follow epidemiologists directly on twitter, to get the news from the source. Often, they gripe at how their own papers are being misreported or distorted.

The journalist who I think has done the best job at communicating the science is Apoorva Mandavilli from the NY Times. A lot of scientists have given her kudos. Here was her post today.

she was absolutely abysmal over last summer on schools

her tone changed and she's been a lot "better" since about mid-October
