Caught it too easily but getting treated very easily!
We've been exceedingly careful, no restaurants, always masks. I'm on the couch watching the Super Bowl. Wife has been spring cleaning pulling out chairs etc. to get rid of. Next door neighbors come over for 10 minutes to see if they want any of the stuff we're getting rid of. The neighbors were more than 10 ft away from me the whole time. On Monday they called to say they were positive. On Wed I started feeling sick.

On Thur morn I went to a stand-alone clinic for the quickie test; best $200 I've spent. Results said positive in 15 minutes. Got back to the house and wife had Methodist Hospital (Houston) tele-help pulled-up on her iPad. Nurse on the screen asked a few questions and I qualified for the monoclonol antibodies (one benefit of being >55 and catching it early). Within 15 minutes the hospital calls and asks when can I show up, so I drive straight there. Simple iv drip and I'm driving home by 5:00 same day.

Symptoms Thur were typical: body aches, fever, runny nose, sore throat, chills, no appetite. Started feeling better Fri. Now on Sat I've finished a big bbq plate and lots of fruit & veggies. Energy to do some office work and put out this note.

Wife has tested negative still. We've divided the house 50/50 and take turns using kitchen (masked & gloved).

Lessons - virus is too easy to catch, be super-careful; get tested early when feeling symptoms; that monoclonol stuff is gold.

Curious if you got ahold of the extremely contagious variant that's been going around. Seeing as how your neighbors were 10' away the whole time.

Nevertheless sounds like you were prepared for the "when" which, unfortunately, not a lot of people aren't. My MIL, for example, not prepared. We had to practically beg her to get ahold of her dr to at least get some meds prescribed. After 3 days of severe symptoms she finally relented and was prescribed ivermectin. Had she reacted sooner she would have been a candidate for the infusion therapy and probably not spent 7 days in bed by herself.

The nurse who gave me the monoclonal stuff at Methodist seemed convinced that it is one of the new highly contagious varieties. The neighbors who came over not only were they infected but so were their three young children. All are better except the dad is still recovering a bit more slowly and has no sense of taste or smell, but that hasn't affected me thankfully

Saw you Sunday and were positive Monday? I take it symptoms showed Monday and they got a rapid? Would be pretty crappy if they came by Sunday with a pending PCR out.

Correct, rapid on Monday

Also-
All the treatments are free! Tax dollars at work. It went exceedingly smooth

Nope

I saw something where one of the health organizations out of the UK basically said the exposure window for the new variant is down from 15mins to "instantaneous"

Our story.....after first month of this we went back to our normal lives without mask. Four weddings, travel around and out of state. Trips to Walmart, HEB and numerous restaurants and no virus. We are older but take supplements and chose faith over fear. Majority of our friends are the same! Say what you want but we are happy we live in a country that still gives us a choice.

My story more closely mimics yours. Done pretty much nothing to prevent or avoid exposure. Don't wear a mask, been to church, restaurants, home gatherings, wedding receptions, etc since day one. Kids have been in sports and school and having sleepovers and playing with friends and other activities. Wife had it...we think...she had a cold around Thanksgiving and lost her smell/taste...got tested and was negative (I tested as well, negative). She donated blood in December and came back positive for covid antibodies. I've donated blood 3x and come back negative for antibodies all 3 times.
