My 91 year old grandmother developed COVID after exposure the same day or the day after receiving her shot. Unfortunately shes now in the hospital receiving oxygen and remdesivir. Ive seen the Regeneron monoclonal antibodies mentioned as a premier treatment. Is that something we should ask her doctors about in addition to remdesivir or is it typically one or the other? Any other questions we should be asking her doctors? Shes at Memorial Herman Memorial City.

Thanks all!

There is unfortunately not a lot of great evidence for Regeneron and would not consider it a "premiere treatment". Also, at the point of requiring oxygen, it is unlikely that monoclonal antibodies would have any utility given that her body is likely already producing antibodies by that point. There is good evidence for remdesivir, unfortunately that evidence demonstrates a lack of clinical efficacy.

The two medications she should hopefully be getting, however, is dexamethasone and tocilizumab which are the only two therapies we have currently that have demonstrated mortality benefit. Unfortunately tocilizumab is very expensive and there is a limited supply, so it is possible that her hospital might not have it in stock.
