As of late Feb, Texas just coming out of the deep freeze, what's the situation with vaccine availability in Texas. Are folks in the 1A and 1B groups still struggling to get access to the shots?

More of this needs to happen.aggiebrad94 said:
My wife's school district just opened up the shot to any teacher in the district. They schedule it for them.

Mom has Alzheimers. She is medicated but can get violent. Her neurologist has it written down that she can't be taken out. Healthcare comes to her at her house.

My parents church is a distribution center in Midland. They are struggling to find people to get the vaccine.

This doesnt surprise me. I was watching the spots available at CVS across the state. Almost every town was booked out within hours. Except 4, Midland, odessa, amarillo, lubbock took about a week to run out of spots.
Based on the posts I've seen from users in those towns, I cant say I'm surprised.
I would feel zero guilt about driving out to midland and grabbing a shot.

My Mom is 93 and can't stand for a prolonged period. What's the best approach to getting her inoculated?
Same, it's absolutely difficult. I'm reaching out to all the older people I know trying to walk them through the system. I just talked to a 75 year old coworker who was completely clueless on even where to start.Marauder Blue 6 said:
Absolutely. I've scheduled appointments for several who don't have computers or the skills or patience to wade though the systems.

for older folks that are wanting a shot, are they having difficulty finding an appointment?
Just checked CVS four times today trying to help my elderly coworker get signed up for a vaccine. No appointments available every single time i checked within hours of Houston.wbt5845 said:chris1515 said:

If they are computer literate, it is easy to find an appointment. My 90 year old mom had no problem. You can register at CVS today and get in next week.
If they are not, it is a challenge getting them signed up. But the availability is not a problem. All 65+ have now had two full months to get signed up. If they really want the vaccine and can't navigate registering online, they need to find help to do so.
I agree with you. Young people in group 1B are snapping up all the appointments, seniors with no ability to get to this distance locations or navigate the computer are severely underserved.HotardAg07 said:Just checked CVS four times today trying to help my elderly coworker get signed up for a vaccine. Additionally, most elderly people I talk to don't even know where to start looking. It's not even just computer literacy, it's being connected to where this kind of information comes across. It's not transparent or easy to understand.
Just consider any low to middle income elderly person, who on average is not going to have a high degree of computer literateness of internet savvy -- this system is f-ing impossible.
Just yesterday, Harris County sends out a tweet about vaccine appointments being available. 4 minutes later, they were gone. It's like that every single time. You expect 80 year olds to figure out how to get those sign ups in time? It's crazy to suggest this is so easy.

My mom (81) just got her 2nd shot through Houston Methodist. They had golf carts to shuttle from parking lot, allowed me to assist, and in the line queue they had plenty of chairs in the line. They also had wheelchairs if anyone needed one.

The vaccine now seems to be generally available to anyone.
