If one were to take ivermectin, could it possibly interfere with or otherwise screwup monoclonal antibodies? My family doctor absolutely refuses to prescribe ivermectin, but I got some anyway from another doc. I may have come down with Covid, and if so, my doc will send me off for monoclonal antibodies. Just not sure what to do.

Not sure if a troll or not, but you should probably discuss this with your doctor. What if a crappy doctor on here said it wouldn't be an issue, but in actuality the combination could lead to massive kidney failure, and you didn't tell your doctor you were taking the ivermectin?

Not a troll. Good suggestion, but my PCP is the kind it does not like to discuss. He is also a by the book kind of guy, and relies 100% on guidance provided by the large hospital chain of which he is a part. My concern is that if I do take the ivermectin and tell him, he will throw up his hands and say that he doesn't want to have anything to do with it.

Is there risk of kidney damage with ivermectin or monoclonal antibodies, or a combination of them?

Doctors on this thread have been more than happy to share their opinions on other issues, such as recommending ivermectin, so why not this one? If any of you guys say that there is a risk, I would give great weight to that.

S
OP, you posed your questions in a manner that might require one of the medical doctors who post on this board to take a position contrary to the one you have stated that your PCP has shared with you. Their liability alarms must be clanging, loudly.

IMO, it sounds like you have a more basic issue. Should you think about replacing your PCP with somebody that you trust and respect...

Three responses.

First, I'm simply asking a basic scientific question as to whether ivermectin and monoclonal antibodies could interfere with each other or have an adverse reaction.

Second, finding another doctor is not as easy or simple as you imply. In some locations the number of doctors available is quite limited. Furthermore, I have yet to find a doctor or doctor's office that will tell you in an initial phone call if that doctor is willing to even consider prescribing ivermectin.

Finally, there are several doctors on this forum that strongly recommend ivermectin. My intent was simply to ask a follow-up question.

Not a physician or pharmacist, though I do work in pharmacology. That said, my comments cannot be taken as any kind of medical or clinical advice and they are worth exactly what you paid for them. If I were a licensed clinician, there is no way in hell I would answer this question on a public Internet forum. I maintain that my statements on the matter are as useful as an ******* on your chin.

I do not personally know of a reason why ivermectin would interact with a bamlanivimab, but it has almost certainly not been studied. There are no data in the EUA that I have seen that would lead me to believe that ivermectin is a threat to alter the efficacy or safety of bamlanivimab. I will tell you that FDA sent out a notice this morning warning that Ivermectin should not be used to treat humans for Covid19. There is no information from FDA on this apart from the standard "We have not evaluated or approved it" disclaimer. There is no official recommended dose and there will be no guidance on how much of what kind should be taken.

If you have followed the ivermectin story, you probably already know what has been said and, if you are a layperson, I assume your opinions are not likely to be changed. You take ivermectin at your own risk knowing that you are the only person responsible for any negative outcomes.

Thanks, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I am a layperson, but don't have strong opinions either way on this particular topic (other than the somewhat generalized opinion that, in times of emergency, we all have to make decisions with incomplete information) which is why I was looking for whatever info I can find. In addition, any opinion I do hold is always subject to further information.

Thanks again.
