Am I right in believing that since Moderna uses the same technological approach it should be equally as effective against the variants?

They believe all 3 vaccines are effective against all known variants, this study was just on the Pfizer vaccine.

Right, but since Moderna and Pfizer share a common medical approach to combatting the virus, Pfizer's test results should be theoretically more directly transferable to Moderna?

I'm not a doctor, but I think this is right. They've been just about lockstep in most studies so far. I'm sure something about their makeup is technically different, but I think they're functionally almost the same.

The UK variant seems to be the one that will probably become dominant in the US and the new vaccines seem to do very well against it.

The vaccines haven't been quite as effective against the South African mutation that is ripping through Brazil right now.

So it appears the US fell on the right side of this one with how aggressively we're vaccinating.
