As I understand it, the better shape your immune system is, the better immunity you will likely get from a vaccination.

Because of this, if I've been sick with something, I always tried to wait a month or so after recovering before getting a vaccination.

How about if you have something like an infected cyst? Does that have any significant effect on your immune system? I was recently on ten days of doxycline and now ten days on bactrim which I finish tomorrow.

Would it be a good idea to wait before being vaccinated or will an infection like that have little effect on your immune system?

I don't know if this has been directly studied in any high quality study, but there are people on straight up immunosuppressant drugs that are taking the vaccine and having an effective antibody response.

So, while I don't think being on antibiotics should have any significant impact on efficacy, I can't say for certain. I'd say just get it. You're going to get a second dose as well.

That's useful to know. Thanks.

I never thought about anbiotics as having a detrimental effect on the immune system. My question is whether the infection itself might reduce the efficiency of the immune system by some amount.

Yeah, I think that's fine. If you had a systemic infection, then maybe hold off, but a local infection shouldn't be an issue.

As it stands now, we having quite a snow storm so I doubt that I drive over to the next town to get the shot.

Usually, snow falls from the clouds in the sky to the ground. Today it seems to be falling from north to south parallel to the ground. Or in a great circle.

Edit: It was postponed a week.

The interesting thing is that by 5 pm, the highways and streets around here were largely clear. It had warmed up and a lot of the snow had turned to slush. The streets and highways were mostly dry.
