Why go everyone this early? How many over 50 have gotten it?

I'm all for getting as many as possible done, just seems there is still a bit of a shortage versus demand for those needing it first.

The gov is trying to get shots in arms to bolster confidence and ensure Texas stays open. Most folks over 65 should already have received their shots if they had any motivation and those over 50 are less likely to to get sick. Plus there is supposed to be more vaccine available pretty soon. The last thing gov wants is to have a smaller percentage of available vaccines getting administered while the 50+ folks are hem-hawing around trying where to find their preferred vaccine if at all. Get doses administered and let's all get back to normal.

This.

At this point, with most of the vulnerable population already having the vaccine (and those that haven't must be either declining it, or in some really strange circumstance--it's not due to shortage), it's time to let all who are willing have their chance. We're going to have enough folks who are hesitant that you don't want to slow down momentum. Perhaps after all those who want the vaccine have had it and survived, some of the folks who have been hesitant will decide to get one after all.

Nice.

Does anyone know where we can find the percent of those by age who have received the vaccine? I've been trying to find 75+, and 65+. But this is the best I've seen. I'm assuming this means single dose, too.

I agree with the momentum and getting it, but based on the numbers, seems low. But, #1 goal is getting as many vaccinated as possible.

If the state is wide open, the vaccine distribution should be too IMO.

Fantastic news. Anybody that wants it can get it, and nobody has to worry about coronavirus anymore.

That was my attitude that made me soften my view on if my cancer history qualified me as 1b or not.

This is good news

Estimates on the "you ought to have the vaccine if you wanted it" date? I'm guessing June 1.

Believe me. People with COVID19 PTSD will still find something the freak out about

But hopefully come mid to late April all the dumb ass stuff like masks and distancing will be fine with enough of them that we can not have to worry about their constant freaking out.

I think that is safe but I'm guessing it's mid May.

How many are we currently capable of administering weekly? 1.2 million? 1.3 million? with 0.7 to 0.9 of those first doses?

In terms of single doses, I would assume that in 6-7 weeks, IE mid may, that we can administer 5-6 million more first doses, and will be up to about 12 million first doses, and closing in on 6-7 million 2nd doses. Unless we can ramp up the rate even more.

What percentage of the adult population(22 million) intend to get the vaccine? 65-70%? That would be roughly 14-15 million in texas or so who will get it, so by mid may you basically have 80%, or 12 out of the 15 million adults that are willing to get it who will have got the first dose at least.

Correct me if something seems wrong in there. And many in that 70% are probably willing to get it, but not necessarily in a hurry. Ie, more or less indifferent. The more people that can get it, the more those indifferent people are likely to get one. And maybe even increase on our 1.2/1.3 million rate.

I feel like this is a big reason...it's pretty easy to just sign up for a vaccine right now in the Houston area (had even more green dots when I looked yesterday) so seems that we can open more people up to sign up and at least max out our capacity

I go here for my COVID data.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Currently, Texas has 106,000 cases active out of 29,000,000 people. That's 0.36% of the population or 3 out of every 1,000. We were over 1.3% back in January.

I think the data alone is proof over half the country has already has covid (CDC estimates 5x what is reported as typical) and vaccines are being done by more and more people that didn't have it already.

We should be normal by summer or sooner

Wife and I got our first shot here in Dallas last Saturday from UTSW. We didn't check any boxes of conditions and are late 30's. We signed up late February.

So I would say this has already begun.

The ones I know now that qualified and haven't gotten their shot while wanting one are basically expecting an appointment to fall in their lap at their preferred time and place. They want to log on to HEB at 11:47 am as they start lunch and schedule it for down the road for three days from now at 4:45pm so they can leave work a little early. If that can't happen, it's too hard to find.

My mom was sitting around waiting for her doctor's office to personally call her and offer her the shot. Once I realized that, I scheduled one for her and told her to show up. She did, thankfully.

There are some people that actively don't want to participate in the process.

I've also been amazed by 70-80 year olds who say "I registered in January and still don't have an appoitment." Start digging around with them and discover they aren't registered - they screwed something up. When I get them registered, they get an appointment within 2-3 days.

Kinda funny on Facebook when there's a news story about this and someone comments about waiting since January. There's an immediate avalanche of replies with help. And it turns out the person registered at just one place in January and patiently sat down to await their call.

Log on to CVS at 5:15am and you are almost guaranteed to find something within a reasonable distance

Louisiana is opening everything too. In fact on Monday, Ochsner is hosting a 24hr blitz ; Monday 10am to Tuesday 10am. There are 6500 moderna vaccines available. I just saw on the news that only 1500 have signed up. Maybe the folks that really want the vaccine have had it, and demand will start to diminish. I had the J&J last week at a Walmart Neighborhood market. I signed up online and got an appointment at 8:20am within the week.

My 17yr old works at a restaurant and was eligible so we signed her up only to find J&J is not approved. Got her approved for Pfizer tomorrow at the local Winn Dixie. The vaccine is readily available here.

We're just about done here in Utah. Vaccines have been available to everyone for over a week now. I've already gotten my shots.

In the entire state there are only 134 people in the hospital with covid, Of those, only 53 in ICU.

82% of people 70+ have been vaccinated.
65% of people 60-69 have been.

Well, I was way too conservative on this one. Counties are already shutting down their vaccination centers due to lack of demand.
