No wait. Get shot and donate the same day.

Although I would recommend giving it a day to make sure you feel okay post vaccine.

ETA: This is the minimal fda guidelines, blood banks can always impose stricter guidelines if they so choose.

Do you know if there are any limitations for other vaccines? I'm specifically wondering about the weird ones the military gets like anthrax, small pox, yellow fever, japanese encephalitis virus, etc.

I don't have access to that data but I'll get you in touch with someone who does.

Shoot me at email.

At the Blood Center, there's no wait for the Moderna and Pfizer, and a 2-week wait after the J&J. I had the J&J on March 17 and donated on April 1. For what it's worth, I got the antibody results back and I'm negative for antibodies. I had assumed I would show antibodies after the vaccine.

Edit to say I just found this on The Blood Centers FAQ page:

Can I still donate blood if I have gotten the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Yes! If you have received one of the FDA Approved (EUA) COVID-19 vaccines, there is no deferral time to donate blood. Any unapproved/trial COVID-19 vaccines are a two week wait period from the last dose.

Does The Blood Center test blood donations for COVID-19 Antibodies?

Yes, we are currently testing all blood donations for COVID-19 Antibodies in order to find more potential Convalescent Plasma (CCP) donors to help others fight the disease. The Antibody test is not an active virus test and only indicates the presence of COVID-19 Antibodies in the blood. (Click here to read the Antibody Test Fact Sheet) The COVID-19 Vaccines will not effect Antibody test results.

Alright- so our DHQ (donor healthy questionairre) which is similar a majorIt's of other centers ask: in the past 8 weeks have you he a vaccination or other shot:

If yes, we go to a flow chart to define the shot.

Anthrax- no deferral just document date
Japanese enceph: no deferal. Doc date
Small pox- 8week deferral from date of shot
Yellow fever- 2 week deferral from date of shot

There were not any indefinite deferrals, most range from 2weeks to 4 weeks.

The longest deferral was rabies, 12 months from end of treatment/shots.
