But how many of those positive cases are in the hospital or otherwise in bad shape?
We went from 2 weeks to not overwhelm the hospitals to counting any positive test. Just because someone is positive doesn't mean they are in danger.... they could just not feel great for 3 days.

But what prompts someone to get tested? I've never been tested because I've never had any symptoms. I presume someone is prompted to get tested if they have symptoms, so you would think that the positivity rate among people getting tested is way higher than the positivity rate of the general population.

And, My guess is that somewhere between 40% and 60% of the pop has immunity either due to already having it, or being fully vaccinated.

You can shorten CDC quarantine guidelines if you get tested after exposure. I would guess most tests now are due to this. You can knock a week off quarantine with a negative test.

We must work and live in very different worlds because most workplace and definitely most schools catalog exposures, contact trace, and quarantine those folks exposed to cases and the only way you get out of that penalty box is through a test. They do that because of lawyers and insurance companies primarily and out of concern for spread as well.

Since asymptomatic spread is common, it doesn't matter if you have symptoms.
