New Jersey is launching a program it's calling a "Shot and a Beer" to encourage those 21 and older to get vaccinated, Governor Phil Murphy announced Monday. Any New Jersey resident who gets their first COVID-19 vaccine dose in the month of May can take their vaccination card to one of more than a dozen participating breweries for a free beer.

Things must be really slow in the vaccination department.

Those that want it will get it. An incentive for a beer to get a shot is desperation

It's an incentive for anyone on the fence as well.

I don't know . . .this time may be different but the "Rational man" assumption has been binned in all sorts of other areas of research. The whole behavioral concept of "nudge" came about because a lot of people when left to their own devices made pretty dumb choices. People would set up 401Ks and leave their default investment strategy as cash and not realize it for 10 years as an example.

So rather than propose a nanny state solution, people have tinkered with nudge concepts like this one. Add a tiny little carrot out front and suddenly people start making better choices. Free beer is my style of nudge by the way,

I've always found that troglodyte gets the job done.

Much better word to use when taking about a fool or backwards thinking person.

you'd be surprised what will work

the hardcore are ungettable, no doubt

at least the powers that be are acknowledging that material incentives are in the tool kit. cuz the population that responds to hectoring is already plowed through.

This is like being in the airport. The airline has overbooked and they are trying to get takers on giving up their seats. Do you take the $500 voucher or hold out gambling that the stakes will be increased.

Now that the door has been opened, I think I would hold out to see at least what the second level prize is....a beer and toaster....a beer and My Pillow ....

I was at Walgreens in midtown Houston today picking up a prescription. The Pharmacist asked if Ive been vaccinated and I said yes. She said theyre literally begging people to get vaccinated, they have more vaccines than people willing to get them. No line, no appointment required, just show up and get the shot right away. Even then still couldnt get any takers. Which is crazy because a month and a half ago I had to drive to freaking Bay City to get the first shot lol.

I think the vaccine has jumped the shark and people dont care anymore.

I was in Corpus for the air show this weekend. They were giving out free entry to the Buc Days carnival if you got vaccinated while in line.

In college I filled out credit card applications for free pizza from pizza hut. I'm pretty sure if I was in college now I'd the the shot for free beer.

My prediction: while the more we vaccinate the better and quicker we can get deaths down to nothing, ultimately it just doesn't matter. Most of the high risk got it. Each person can now make their choice, life should 100% go back to normal. We aren't overwhelming Hospitals, deaths are going to keep coming down to that of normal flu season levels(or maybe lower soon enough) as this thing will run out of hosts to kill, and maybe America can be America again.

Cases will be endemic, but ifr will go down by the day as it basically turns into another cold at some point. Obviously if a new variable comes up that changes the equation you'd have to predict something different, but this is where I see it trending now.

Yeah and I will get vaccinated too. I just don't currently have access to it due to location.

I like to travel and if I get sick then I can't travel. That's pretty much my main motivation - missing out on social activities.

Harris county is closing out their program at NRG on May 16.

They are offering prizes to get your shot. The holdouts are getting prizes.

Go get your shot, then get back in line. More needles, more chances to win!

My grandfather was a doc back when polio vaccine came out. My dad said that he told him folks were scared of the vaccine and would not let their kids get it. Told a story of a lady who had three kids that she refused to get vaccinated. Two of the three got polio and she tried to commit suicide.

Harris County already knows the Texans can't sell out games next year so they're already trying to prevent NFL broadcast blackouts for the area

Sounds like an experiment to find out how many shots we can give drunks before they have real side effects.

Hospitals are now having to pay the nurses to get the vaccine. I heard a hospital nearby only had a 40% employee vaccination rate.
