Some have said the new variants have caused more problems for younger people. But that's a gross misinterpretation. ALL ages are currently lowering, but 65+ lowering at incredible rates causing the percentages of younger people to be higher. Vaccine effect is fast turning covid for 65+ into what covid was for 50-64 year old's. Next step, for 50+ to keep approaching 18-49 year old's. Maybe by June.

The official narrative is that "High vaccination rates and adherence to safety protocols "are essential to control COVID-19 and prevent surges in hospitalizations and deaths in the coming months,"

Man, it's not my place to bag on anonymous internet folks, but are you some kind of Gubmint bot? Kind of creepy and nauseating at the same time.

I got told by staff that this board is for those who "believe the official narrative" so I'm trying to make sure this board stays on track with what it was designed for and doesn't stray into wild conspiracy theories or non official narrative talk.

I'll admit it feels a bit silly at times but I'm just trying to stay on the right side of staff while still contributing to this board.

It's the "CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such" of this board. I chuckle every time I see it.

All of our hospitalized pts now under 50, with some in 30s. None of them were vaccinated.

In Britain and Israel deaths are down 99%. In the US some people are determined to prove how great the vaccines are by continuing to die without them.

It would be less of an issue if they would just peacefully die at home instead of making the doctors run around and take care of them.

None with no comorbids. Obesity. ESRD. Congenital heart disease. DM. HTN.

Sadly - 2 mid thirties covids this week. One gone. Another on ECMO dying.

I'm not sure I follow. In Britain, 53% have had a vaccine, 27% fully vaccinated. In US, it is 46% and 35%.

Why is there a reason to conclude a difference in death rate decline is due to vaccine refusal?

UK is at almost 70% for first dose.

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations

But more to the point I was making, uptake in those places is pretty uniform. It's much more uneven in the US. Still, the people dying here are ones who decided not to get the vaccine.

Yes. Tociluzimab was re - approved for cytokine storm pts after its hiatus for a while. Bamlanivimab + etesevimab also being used with anecdotal success. Otherwise still remdesivir, dexamathasone, CVP. We're ECMOing more pts - although sadly I've not seen one survive.

Prior to the advent of toci and Bam/Etese our all comer survival rates for ICU admits was around 20%. For those intubated - only 5-10%.

Curious to see updated data with the younger pts currently.

That says they're at 66% among people 18 and older

Seeing the same, almost exclusively younger unvaccinated patients at this point. Mostly higher risk patients who clearly would have benefitted from vaccination. And it's been over a month since I've seen a patient over 65 in the clinic or hospital who hadn't gotten (or wasn't getting at that time) the vaccine.

Most of my younger patients through the pandemic with serious illness were obese, had type 1 or type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, congenital heart disease, alcoholics +/- liver disease or were smokers. There have been several anomalies, like a couple guys under age 30 with no detectable risk factors who died on ECMO, but generally speaking morbidity is the issue with young healthy patients and not mortality.

mRNA vaccine is this century's moonshot. It is going to change everything. It is an amazing time to be in preventative medicine.

It is not difficult to image using that tech for an improved flu vaccine, cancer treatments, and resistant bacteria treatment.
