Do we have any knowledge about whether these MRNA vaccines could have a side effect of activating dormant genetic diseases like Huntingtons (which can be known to be live but not currently in effect).

Essentially we know my spouse has the # of genetic repeats necessary on the gene for Huntingtons to develop the condition at some point. We would rather not catapult that into action 5, 10, 20 year early.

I don't think there is any mechanism by which the mRNA vaccine could accelerate the progression of HTT aggregation.

I assume you are following the ongoing clinical trials? There was a big disappointment with the ASOs recently, but I have a lot of hope for the gene therapy approaches.

Her uncle is in a trial in Canada now. Her father was too far gone to be a candidate. I have hope, but tbh. Covid nuked 3 or 4 promising trials and set the research back years.

Edit...didnt set research back as much as delayed everything. They need to start more human trials.

Very interesting thought. This is something that only time will tell as to long term effects of the vaccine.

On a personal note, my family has a history of HD. I have been tested and am negative but my brother has not been tested. If you ever feel like you need someone to talk too feel free to pm me.

There is no plausible biochemical mechanism for this hypothesis.

I got an mRNA vaccine. I'm kinda hoping it turns me into Spiderman.

The spider has to have been given the vaccine and then bite you

I can read minds now, so that's pretty cool.

An mRNA vaccine does not interact with DNA in any way, so there isn't any possible mechanism for it to turn on, turn off, or have any effect whatsoever on your genes.
