My wife and son contracted covid from a babysitter we had over last Tuesday. My wife started feeling bad on Friday and my son starting running a fever on Monday. They both tested positive.

I, however, had no symptoms and tested negative. But now, a week and a day after my wife started feeling bad, have started to feel bad. I have a sore throat and some nasal congestion/pain. I'll be getting tested this morning.

After my last negative test in which I got the result on Friday, I went in to work thinking I was in the clear with a negative test and no symptoms.

First question: What is the likelihood I contracted covid way after my wife and son did? By the way, my wife and I both are vaccinated.

Second question: I work with my dad and he is on the older side. If we talked for a few minutes on Friday, what is the likelihood he has it? He is slated to get the vaccine tomorrow. If he has contracted it but hasn't shown any symptoms yet, will the vaccine help him?

Thanks in advance.

I picked it up on Sunday last week but didn't show symptoms until Wednesday night. My sons all started showing Thursday, but my wife didn't until last night.

I think the virus can be on and around you for a while before your body "gives in" to it. My immune system was shot because it had been so many days of little or no sleep since last Saturday night, but my wife was in a better place until all of us became needy and drained her.

Very likely you got it from your wife and son. Look up the cdc protocols for specifics. But They are contagious for a good while after showing symptoms. If you weren't vaccinated technically you should have quarantined and not gone to work for a couple weeks or so. Again, look at the guidance and it your company policy if they have one. Most have every scenario covered.

And you will have to see on your dad, but if your were close to him for 15 minutes he is considered exposed to a close contact. Even if less you will just have to see but he probably should proceed as exposed if not vaccinated

Yeah the interesting thing is that I was vaccinated.

Also, if my dad gets the vaccine (assuming he has contracted it but not shown symptoms yet) will it help him?

Your son would have been contagious longer since his symptoms showed later, it's likely you picked it up from him.

At one point, they didn't want people getting the vaccine while they were sick. I would make sure he talks to his doctor/nurse's line about it.

Ah, gotcha ...well that can happen and Hopefully you just stay at these mild symptoms and hopefully not enough viral load to pass on to your Dad.

Would I have less viral load to give considering I was vaccinated?

Also, what would happen if my dad were to get the vaccine today or tomorrow before he experiences any symptoms?

Vaccination today or tomorrow isn't going to do anything. Follow the FLCCC protocol for prevention or early outpatient.

Dr. Rev also has excellent advice on his Facebook page. Call his office if you need a doctor.

I have had two family members -Aunt and Uncle that got the J&J first week of May. They are both 42 years old.
They both have Covid now. They said the Doctor told them it was the Delta Variant and also said the J&J is showing evidence of not being at best 40% in protecting from it. They are both very healthy ( He is a triathelete) and she is a cop.

Thanks. I worry about the J&J.it has lagged behind the others. I hope you feel better quickly.

Yeah I've read stuff that has said it isn't as effective against the variants. Hopefully it still minimizes the viral load so that I didn't spread it to anyone at work on Friday.

All of the vaccines are having breakthrough cases.

Well I work with my dad so he's who I'm mainly worried about if I'm honest. We only had three interactions that day that I can remember, and none were more than a couple minutes long so hopefully it's not enough to infect (if I do have it).

Even if you have it, he's not guaranteed to get it. One person in our home has been very closely exposed twice and casually exposed several times and not gotten it.

I'll say a prayer for your family. I was very afraid to pass this to my mom early on so I understand your worry. Chances are very good that you'll all be fine.

Not nearly as much as the J&J is. That's why the CDC is formally exploring giving an mRNa booster to people vaccinated with J&J.

Delta variant is approaching 90% of all cases in America. It's very likely to be delta variant

Why is that a hard no? I don't understand why that's such a big deal to people? If your doctor recommends it pending the results of the CDC investigation, would you do it? Or is it still a hard no for some weirdly emotional reason? It's not hard to get an mRNA vaccine - you can probably get it done at your grocery store. It's no cost to you. Our understanding of things evolves and so does the virus.... So I just don't understand the point of having such a weird hardline opinion about something so trivial in the grand scheme of things.

Presumably you have the J&J shot which is certainly way better than nothing... But if I was told I should get the rabies vaccine because I got bitten by a wild animal, I wouldn't say "that's a hard no, not gonna happen" as if it's some evil government conspiracy. The CDC might only make a recommendation about the J&J vaccine and somehow that triggers you?

Would you get the rabies shot if the CDC recommended everyone go get the shot just in case you get bitten by a wild animal? Because that's how a lot of people feel about getting a shot for something that carries almost no risk to them.

You don't understand why some people have zero interest in getting a vaccine based on a new technology and limited testing all while the manufacturer has complete liability protection?

FTR - I got the Pfizer shot

I get the new vaccine part as a consideration of risk but the technology has existed for 10 years, its why the vaccine was in Human trials in March.
