Rest does a body good, playing at home in front of the 12th man does the soul good! After 7 road games, over 3 weeks on the road, our ladies finally were able to play at home in Reed Arena, wake up in their own bed, sit in their own locker run out their tunnel, play in front of the 12th man, and saw 'em off together during the war hymn.
After. suffering there first and only 2 losses of the year last week, a bounce back was needed. The ladies delivered and came out swinging hot. They won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16 leaving SELA no room for hope. They passed cleanly, Waak spread the ball around, and SELA had no answers. The Aggies would go on to win the 3rd set 25-18 with a lot of subs playing as well. Every single freshman saw the court, Megan Fitch got her first ace in her first match, Amare Hernandez got her first kill on her first attempt. 10 different Ags collected a kill. The Aggies nearly had double the amount of kills and also had 12.5 blocks. It was a solid match overall and the brand of volleyball we expect from Texas A&M. SeLA had 15 returners from their 26-5 and. undefeated. conference team in 2024.
Today the ladies head back to their own homes and continue their morning routines as they get to play again at 6pm against New Hampshire. Last season they took us to 5 sets in this very invitational. It also took a miraculous comeback to take them down in set 5 after going down early. They went on to win their conference tourney and advance to the NCAA Tournament before falling to Arizona State 3-0.
They return some pieces including, their middle blocker #10 Rachel Grier who stands at 6'4. Expect some battles between her and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins. Their leader in kills is freshman outside hitter #6 Lucy Chertock. This team has already seen some elite opponents. They got swept, but faced Kentucky and Penn State. So they're used to seeing tempo and hard hitting opponents. Yesterday in Reed Arena they endured a 5 setter against Loyola Marymount and fell in set 5.
For us a lot went right versus SeLA. I'm sure playing at home helped, but the intensity must remain in today's match as well. Hopefully the confidence is back and we can come out firing on all cylinders. Matches feel a to better when they're over in 3 sets. Let's stay on the win column and keep this thing rolling again! The. crowd looked great yesterday on a Thursday, hopefully it's even better today!
