Oh how sweep it is! Back to back home matches results in back to back sweeps! Texas A&M Volleyball returned home this weekend and hosted an invitational with 3 other teams. First they hosted Southeastern Louisiana, then last night they played New Hampshire. The Aggies significantly outplayed both teams earning the sweep.
After being on the road the first 3-4 weeks, the Aggies were starving to play in front of the 12th Man. How about 3 games in 3 days. That's right, the Aggies conclude the Texas A&M Invitational this afternoon at 3pm against Loyola Marymount.
The LMU Lions are uncharacteristically 2-6 this season. Last year they took down multiple power 4 teams in non conference (including SMU), won the WCC, and even took down Washington in round one of the NCAA tourney before falling to Stanford. However, they lost a talented group of seniors and 4 of their best leaders in kills, their top two blockers, and their libero. This leads to 2025 a rebuilding year with 5 freshman and many transfers. Their only 2 wins being Western Michigan and New Hampshire 2 nights ago. Last night they lost to Southeastern Louisiana 3-1.
But as Jamie has repeatedly said, this weekend has been solely about us, the Texas A&M Aggies. After starting 5-0, we dropped two matches on back to back nights against SMU and TCU. The Aggies needed the rest and needed to get back to playing Aggie Volleyball. Being at home has helped significantly, as has better passing and efficient hitting! The numbers have been through the roof the last two games. Kills are being spread evenly among our weapons. Ava Underwood and Addi Applegate have looked more comfortable in the back row. Many players have seen the court. All has gone well the past two games.
All our freshman have hit the court this invitational. Addi Applegate who has been seeing regular minutes all season has looked phenomenal on defense the last two matches. We found out that Megan Fitch was a little banged up to begin the season and got her first court time these matches. She delivered an ace and despite her 6'2 frames, has played in the back row showcasing her all around skill set.
It's an earlier start today. No Aggie football, a boring skate of college football games, head on over to Reed Arena to cheer on our ladies in their last non conference match before SEC play begins Wednesday! Our home crowd has delivered a great energy and this excitement and enthusiasm hasn't been around for Aggie Volleyball. Coke be part of the raucous crowd and help our ladies to a win!
10 non conference matches, we've seen some great things from our Aggies. Despite the setback in the DFW, our Ags picked up some good wins and hopefully end it off with a solid win this afternoon! A back to back to back sweep would do wonders for our confidence heading into conference play! Let's BTHO LMU!
