New heights, unfamiliar territory… Texas A&M Volleyball is ranked the highest its ever been sitting as the. Number 6 team in the country. All deserved. The Aggies are 19-3 and 11-1 in the Southeastern Conference. The goal now is to stay hungry, stay motivated, and fight every game like they're all do or die. After a 5 day stretch, the Aggies play on the road and face an improved Auburn team who's fighting for a bye in the conference tourney and for a spot in the tournament. The Aggies themselves have plenty on the line, most notably a NCAA Tourney hosting position.
Auburn is tied for 6th in the conference at 7-5. They have done exactly what they needed to and comfortably beat the teams in the bottom half of the conference. However, they have struggled to beat the top teams getting swept by Tennessee, and losing in 4 sets to Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, and Georgia. Jamie mentioned how Auburn loves to run an extremely fast tempo offense. So we must serve tough and keep them out of system. If you look at the stats, Auburn has one of the best blocks in the conference. However, they too are really susceptible to a strong block.
So (like a broken record) we must spread out offense and get our middles involved to open things up. A team like us can really expose Auburn's strength since we have a versatile offense. I expect us to have a really even game with all our weapons over 5 kills. I also really want to see more than 5 aces. This late into the season our block is improving, our passing is improving, it's time our serving starts to turn things up as well.
This will be 13th conference game, only 3 to go. We stand firmly in second place and a win guarantees us a double bye in the SEC tourney. This is no time to let up. Jamie's teams have finished conference play strong and I expect that trend to continue. Last year we went on a big run as we got into tourney play. Right now we are riding a 7 game winning streak and winners of 14 of our last 15. Let's keep this train rolling and get out of Auburn with a quick dominating win. BTHO auburn…
