Gabi Rodriguez

We are back with our player spotlights for the 2026 season and we will kick things off with our freshman defensive specialist / libero Gabi Rodriguez. Gabi Rodriguez was the centerpiece for our 2026 recruiting class. The lighting quick floor general committed June 21st of 2024 and will be a much needed back row player for the reigning national champion Texas A&M Aggies.

Rodriguez earned nearly every accolade a prep volleyball player can receive. A 4 year starter at McKinney North High School where she was coached by her mother Libby Rodriguez. Rodriguez led McKinney North to the 2025 state championship where she recorded a state record 43 DIGS in the 5 set loss. She was a 4 time all district player, a 3 time all state athlete, a 2025 first team AVCA All American, and a 2025 MaxPreps 2nd team All American player. She played her prep volleyball with the prestigious MadFrog volleyball club which was also where Ifenna Cos-Okpalla played club volleyball. Rodriguez has been a part of MadFrog since she was 7 years old. She was also the Texas Sports Writers State Defensive Player of the Year and the DFW's Libero of the Year. She amassed over 2500 digs in her stellar 4 year career at McKinney North.

Most impressive on her resume is Rodriguez being named to the USA U21 National team this past summer. Because of it being played late into the summer, the team was made up of high schoolers. Rodriguez wearing the red white and blue earned the starting nod for team USA as they played in Indonesia. She was rated one of the top liberos statistically despite only being 17 at the time. During this stretch she got to work with Aggie legend Stacy Sykora. At the conclusion of her senior year she was also selected to participate at the Under Armour High School All American Game where she started as well and showed out on the national stage with 11 digs, a couple assists, an even a rare Libero kill.

Rodriguez is one of the best back row players in the nation and can be expected to challenge Addi Applegate for the Libero jersey. She covers a lot of the court and is great at serve receive. She can fly anywhere on the floor and get the offense going with great ball placement. She is a solid server as well. The Aggies are losing Ava Underwood and Tatum Thomas at the position, only returning Applegate. Rodriguez will pick up the slack of losing those two, along with fellow freshman Jenna Thedford.

The battle for the Libero jersey between the two freshman and Applegate will be something interesting to follow this spring and into the fall. Either way we'll be in good hands. I can absolutely see Rodriguez in the Libero jersey, but if not she will be seeing the court in that right back position like Applegate was this past year. With many new players at the net, we'll need steady defense in the back row and that's exactly what Rodriguez will provide. We know how important this position is to Jamie and his staff. Lindsey Walton does a great job with the liberos and an Aggie great at the position Jen Woods is on the staff as well.

Rodriguez is a coaches daughter with an excellent skill set and strong work ethic. She has been praised by so many for her effort, heart, and knowledge of the game. Growing up around volleyball since berth shows in her play. Rodriguez in an interview I'll post below says she never had Texas A&M on her radar, but just a couple conversations with the staff and she was blown away and knew where she wanted to go. She's then fell in love with Aggieland, the school, the team, the staff, and everything about Texas A&M. She will be wearing number 1 this year for the Aggies. Wearing that jersey which was last worn by Ifenna Cos-Okpalla will come with some really big shoes to fill, but Gabriella Kate Rodriguez is a player that can live up to that hype. She will definitely earn multiple all conference and even all American honors during her tenure here at Texas A&M and with her in the back row, SEC coaches will be up at night game planning a little harder.

Jenna Thedford

This week we will be introduced to our other freshman back row libero /defensive specialist Jenna Thedford. Like Rodriguez, Thedford is an excellent prospect in the back row and comes to Aggieland after a stellar prep career at Pearland Dawson and Houston Skyline.

Thedford committed to Aggieland very late into the recruiting cycle. While most commits choose their schools the summer after their sophomore year, Thedford committed to the Aggies February 23rd of 2025 after her junior season. It's usually late to commit that far after the summer to a power 4 program, but Thedford is a quality piece and the Aggies knew headed into 2026 they'd need more assurance in the back row.

Thedford spent her high school years playing for Houston area powerhouse Dawson High School. The school's rise in the volleyball ranks was partly due to the back row presence of Thedford. A four year letter winner, she was Dawson's libero for 3 years, taking them further in the playoffs each year. She was a multi time distinct defensive player of the year. Her senior year she led Dawson out of the tough region 3 and all the way to the state championship, a first in the school's history. They'd eventually fall to future Aggie Sophee Peterson and the powerhouse of Byron Nelson, but the bright play and steady leadership of Thedford made history for Dawson.

What's a Jamie Morrison Aggie team without a Houston Skyline player. After the likes of Logan Lednicky, Ava Underwood, Morgan Perkins, and Maddie Waak departed, it was only fitting we brought in a recruit from Houston Skyline in Thedford. The Skyline to College Station pipeline continues. Thedford started club at a later date but worked her way into the always talented Skyline team. The class of 2026 team featured commits from Nebraskas, Wisconsin, Louisville, Florida, SMU, Baylor and other division one programs. Seeing all those commitments makes it no shock to see that they won open nationals last summer with Thedford at libero.

Although a softball player most of her life, she eventually made the decision to switch to volleyball full time and we'll be glad she did! She will provide stellar play in the back row. She's a great leader and most importantly a winner and she will bring that winning work ethic and characteristic to Aggieland. Like previously mentioned, the back row room features sophomore Addi Applegate and freshman Gabi Rodriguez.

It's unknown what formations and substitutions we will be running in regard to our "littles" but Thedford bolsters the young but talented room. There's an open battle for the libero jersey between all 3 ladies, but I know we'll be in good hands in back row defense. From club highlights, Thedford reminded me a lot of Underwood with her ability to serve out of system balls and place them near the net. She's used to setting high level players and now getting to work with A&M's high level pins should be a seamless transition. Thedford also has the potential to be great from the service line.

Thedford is one of 5 in our talented freshman class. She's enrolled early and has looked strong in the spring games. Thedford seems to be completely bought into this team and being an Aggie. This team is lucky to have her as is this university. And PS, keep an eye out for her little sister Bree who is a libero for Houston Skyline 14 Royal team!

Brooke Lacewell

Now we head to the right side of the net and look into freshman opposite hitter Brooke Lacewell. Lacewell finds her way to Aggieland growing up as an Aggie as both her parents former students! The explosive opposite hitter comes to Texas A&M highly regarded as a hitter.

Lacewell ended her high school career at the newly opened Eagle Mountain High School in Fort Worth, Texas after playing at Boswell High School. One of the most visually appealing and vast schools, Eagle Mountain competed at the 4A level in its first two years of varsity athletics. Lacewell helped lead the Knights to its school's first ever state championship in its young history. Her senior season was defined by 378 kills, 244 digs, 66 blocks, and 18 aces. She was district co-mvp with her teammate and Cornhusker Keoni Williams. Lacewell earned numerous all state and all region recognitions.

On the club scene Lacewell began playing for Drive Nation until she moved to play for Dallas Skyline. A sister club to Houston Skyline, Lacewell played for a strong club team at the elite level. They finished 5th at nationals last summer that saw Jenna Thedford and Houston Skyline win it all. Lacewell was a dynamic hitter who played primarily at opposite for this talented club team.

Lacewell's prep career earned her many accolades and a ranking of 106th in the class of 2026. Lacewell began playing volleyball at the age of 8 and soon after fell in love with the sport and solely focused on it. She's played all across the net, but the last few years and seemingly into college she's been focusing on the opposite or right side position. Lacewell has some great athleticism and explosiveness to her game. She is explosive with her swing and gives blockers little time to react to her arm speed and quick decision making.

There may not be a bigger hole to fill than at the opposite position after multiple time all American and Aggie legend Logan Lednicky has graduated and is now playing professionally. For many years we were accustomed to seeing number 9 flying in on the right side to annihilate a ball. It's going to take some time getting used to someone else on that right side. Going into this spring there were question marks whether we would pick up a proven opposite from the transfer portal but ultimately we elected not too.

At the position currently the Aggies have a battle between sophomore Taryn Morris and freshman Brooke Lacewell. Morris got some reps behind Lednicky last year, primarily on the defensive side when Lednicky was in the back row to give us some height at the net. Morris stands at 6'3 and has a great arm as well. Lacewell is a bit shorter at 6'0. Both are righties compared to Lednicky who was a lefty.

I think it was telling that Morrison chose not to bring in anyone at this position in the portal. He has faith in his two young options. Morris has some experience and Lacewell is a promising young prospect. This was a battle in January and it will be battle for our staff going into fall camp and non conference. Lacewell is a great option and I'm a fan of her arm swing and ability to flatten a volleyball.

Lacewell, like I've mentioned with the other freshman, committed a couple years ago before Jamie Morrison really got this thing going and long before we stood as national champions. Lacewell believed in this team, this staff, and in this university. Lacewell is an elite prospect who's won a lot of volleyball in her prep career. She will bring that talent and mindset to Aggieland in hopes of helping us bring back another national championship. She's hard to miss with her distinctive red hair, but you'll notice her explosive arm just as easily. Not saying it's a coincidence, but for the past 4 years we had a generational Aggie on the right side do pretty well for us. Now there's a chance another generational Aggie can deliver for us from the same position. Lacewell, I hope you have pictures at Kyle as a child!! We'll use them on our tournament run this year!

Lolufe Adedeji

  • Number:
  • Class: Freshman
  • Position: Middle Blocker
  • Hometown: Edmond, Oklahoma
  • High School: Edmond Memorial High School
  • Club Team: OK Charge
  • Height: 6'2
  • Major:
  • 12th Man Profile:
The last freshman to introduce is middle blocker Eyiloluwafe (Lolufe) Adedeji. She's the lone incoming freshman who didn't early enroll this spring, but she will be joining the team soon this summer.

Adedeji had a storied career at Edmond Memorial High School, where she led her team to 3 state championships and ended her career being recognized as the Oklahoma Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year. During her senior season, in 40 games, she amassed 327 kills and 114 blocks. Capped off by a 12 kill, 9 block game in the state championship. She was named all conference and all state multiple times throughout her high school career; which was a historic one in the Oklahoma ranks. She was simply dominant and unstoppable at the highest level of Oklahoma Volleyball.

For her club team she played for Oklahoma Charge for many years and found much success. OK Charge is one of the top club teams in the state of Oklahoma and Adedeji helped lead them to an AAU National title in 2025. While not enrolled at Texas A&M this spring, she's playing 18U with a new club: Oklahoma Peak, another dominant club team in Oklahoma.

One thing you'll see consistently said about Adedeji is her positive energy on and off the court. Middle blockers in volleyball tend to be the unsung heroes of teams. They get set only a few times, they're asked to do so much laterally across the net taking on hitters. They're forced to defend one on one more often than not. And they're asked to be quick decision makers. They won't get the credit and fame that pin hitters get but they're just as important, if not more. That being said, teams usually take on the personalities of their middles. We saw Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins play confident and dominant volleyball. You have to bring an edge at the position and if you watch Adedeji play, she's celebrating after every point, she's encouraging teammates, she's playing with some fire. She's really expressive on the court and it spreads throughout her team.

Adedeji is ranked the 184th prospect in the country and the second best player in the state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma isn't known for producing many elite volleyball prospects, so the competition she will face at the next level be a step up for her. I think she will need time to to adjust defensively, however offensively with better setting she will thrive early. On the court she brings power offensively and defensively. She has a strong swing at the net whether it's set to her quickly or if she's hitting off of one foot behind the setter. She runs the slide really well, similar to Kaia Castle. She has an extremely long arms which make her terrifying to face at the net.

Like previously mentioned about the opposite position, middle blocker has some huge shoes to fill as well, perhaps bigger. For the last 3 seasons the Aggies relied on Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins at the net (and service line). On their way to a national championship, the Aggies rallied behind their middle duo which was one of the best in the nation. There may have been no better blocked than Cos-Okpalla and no better offensive weapon from the middle position than Perkins.

With only one returning middle on the roster, Djurdja Stanojevic, the Aggies needed to add at the position. The Aggies received a commitment from Adedeji in August of 2024. Going into 2026, Jamie and Co would absolutely need to add through the portal. They grabbed two elite transfers, both with 3 years of eligibility in Mountain West Freshman of the year Eliza Sharp and former 5 star recruit from Ohio State Kaia Castle. Although not being able to have enrolled in spring will be a challenge, Adedeji will come into this summer ready to work and join the competition. Middles are a position where you hardly see freshman starting as it takes a while to adapt to the faster collegiate game.

I'm really excited for Adedeji to enroll and get working in this system. Perkins nor Cos-Okpalla were big name recruits. This staff developed them into pro caliber players. I think Adedeji has so much potential at the middle position and from all accounts she's an even better person off the court too. She's very involved in her school and her community and she's going to fit in very well in Reed Arena and around Aggieland!

12th Man, there you have our freshman class! As noted above, most of these girls committed in the summer of 2024. They put their faith in Jamie and this university long before we reached the sweet sixteen, much less a national championship. They believed… now it's time for them to help bring another to Texas A&M

Eliza Sharp

Now that we've all met the freshman, it's time to meet the other newcomers. 4 transfers and we'll kick things off with redshirt sophomore Eliza Sharp. Sharp is a middle blocker who transferred to Texas A&M after 2 seasons at Boise State.

Sharp is from the Bay Area in California In a suburb city of the San Francisco area called Burlingame. She played high school volleyball for Burlingame High School. Her high school career was strongly impacted by covid 19, especially being in the state of California. She bursted onto the scene as a freshman winning a CCS title and delivering the game winning point for her team. An overpass on her sister's serve went over the net and Eliza sent it over, it got blocked, she tried to pick it back up into play and it snuck over the net. She played that season along side her sister Emmy, who played beach volleyball at Stanford and is a big inspiration for Eliza to pick up and fall in love with the sport. Eliza finished her club volleyball career with Rage Westside Volleyball Club out of the Bay Area and saw so much success at 18's level with Rage Westside. She also played for Vision Volleyball Club as well.

Having your sophomore season of high school taken away and your junior season impacted as well, recruiting might have been a tough challenge. Sharp wasn't a top prospect, in fact there's not really any recruiting profiles on her. She committed later in the recruiting process to Boise State. As a true freshman, she was on a Boise team with 5 middle blockers and two super seniors at the position. She was able to redshirt her first year. Boise State head coach Shawn Garus said, the redshirt year was great for Sharp and it gave her time to develop and learn the game from some upperclassmen. In fact during her second year, opposing coaches would approach Garus and ask him how in the world did she not play in 2024 lol.

Coming into 2025, Boise State would again have 5 middle blockers on the roster, but through the spring and summer it was redshirt freshman Eliza Sharp turning heads with her vertical and powerful swing. She opened her season with a doubleheader that saw her go for 15 kills in her first collegiate game then a match with 10 blocks in 3 sets a couple hours later. The middle blocker just showed Boise who she was. Throughout the season she'd have 8 more matches with double digit kills leading to a season total of 250 kills (2.21 per set) all while hitting .323. Those number of kills were second on the entire team, which is a crazy stat for a middle blocker. While her hitting percentage was first on the team. She would also total 140 blocks at 1.21 per set. For reference, in 2 less games she had 6 more kills than Ifenna Cos-Okpalla. Sharp would help lead Boise State it a 20-11 record as they fell just short in the Mountain West Championship to Utah State.

Sharp would earn Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, which is an award not so often given to middle blockers. She would be first team all North West Region as well. After Boise State's season concluded she would enter the portal. Right on Christmas Eve, she announced publically that she would be transferring to the national championship winning Texas A&M Aggies. What a Christmas gift for Jamie Morrison and the 12th Man.

Like I mentioned above with Adedeji's profile, we all know that we are losing our two starting middle blockers Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins. With only one returner at the position in Djurdja Stanojevic who never really saw the court. Morrison would add a freshman in Adedeji and two transfers including Sharp. Having to replace two Aggie legends, we had to desperately add talent via the portal. Sharp was one of the most productive middles in the portal after her monstrous redshirt freshman season.

Sharp is an incredible force at the net. She is one of the most dominant offensive weapons from the middle position. At 6'3 she stands taller than Cos-Okpalla and Perkins. What made those two stand out were their speed and athleticism. Sharp is extremely quick as well and has great bounce. Boise State often looked to her on offense and I believe she will fit in well in our system. She has such a quick and powerful swing similar to Morgan Perkins.

Now one of the main questions, if not the main question this off season, is who will be setting Sharp and the rest of this offense. With Sharp's quick swing and athleticism, we'll need a setter who's comfortable setting the middles and can set a quick set. Having two huge weapons on the outside like Kyndal Stowers and Natalie Ring will open up the middle of the net as they will require a defenses full attention. Having a middle blocker like Sharp will ease our new setters transition.

We saw how important the position was for this team and for its success. Replacing Perkins and Cos-Okpalla might seem daunting and while it may be, landing Eliza Sharp out of the portal will make it possible. She will be a dominant force in Aggieland this season for seasons to follow. The future sports psychologist from the Bay Area has found a home here in Aggieland and having someone like Eliza will help Texas A&M Volleyball to remain elite and it's inevitable that she will help bring us another national championship. Everyone meet the former Mountain West Freshman of the Year and one of our new middle blockers Eliza Sharp!

Kaia Castle

Let's keep our spotlight on our new middles as we will now dive into our second middle transfer, the talented Kaia Castle. The 6'4 Castle comes to Aggieland via the transfer portal after two seasons, including a redshirt year, at Ohio State to help retool and reload the middle position group.

From the great state of Minnesota, Castle hails from Buffalo, Minnesota. Castle put together an illustrious high school and prep career in Minnesota and earning her the number 16 spot in the nation in the 2024 recruiting class. Just like Sharp, covid had an impact on her high school career, but through school and the club scene, she was able to place herself amongst the best in the county. She played for Buffalo High School in Minnesota where she dominated and led her high school to be one of the state's constant powerhouses. She led her team in blocks and kills every single season.

On the club scene she played with Minnesota Select. MN Select is one of, if not, the premier club volleyball program in Minnesota. Her team featured a good portion of Minnesota's current roster like the Swenson sisters and Carly Gilk. In 2022 she helped lead her club team to a second place finish at nationals. She's often been part of USA's development teams, she was an all American, and she was selected to participate in the Under Armour All American Game. She was absolutely dominant at the prep level and collected numerous all American and all state accolades. She earned her way to be recognized as a unanimous 5 star and top 20 recruit in the nation. She shocked many in state as she chose to sign with Ohio State.

Prior to signing Castle, Ohio State has been to 3 straight sweet sixteen trips and an elite eight. They signed an elite class with Castle. However, the season before she arrived they would go 10-18. They would then redshirt her, a common practice for freshman middles. But in 2024, they would finish 14th in the Big 10. Many players began leaving the program, but Castle stayed for the 2025 season as she was destined to start and the middle blocker one for the Buckeyes.

Not only did she start, she was the lone bright spot for a struggling Ohio State team. Castle would go on to lead them in blocks at 0.88 per set and would average 1.94 kills per set, good for 3rd on the team. She'd be the only player to start every match for the Buckeyes. She'd go on to break Ohio State's single game block record with 15 in one game. She'd also have 7 games with double digit kills, despite her team playing most matches for 3 sets. Standing at 6'4, with a great vertical and quickness, she'd make her presence felt quickly on the court. She However, Ohio State would only win 6 games all season and see a mass exodus once again.

Kaia Castle would enter the portal and quickly become one of the most sought after portal targets. Her and Natalie Ring would both commit days after the national championship on December 23rd. An early Christmas present to Jamie Morrison and staff. This would help shape the 2026 roster early on in the off season, especially for a team losing 9 seniors. Castle would kick off an exciting portal season for the reigning champions.

Like I mentioned previously above with Eliza Sharp, and as many know, the Aggies would have to rebuild and reload at the middle position more than any other. Last season and fkr the past few years, the Aggies were carried (in dominant fashion) at the middle position by All American Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and all conference Morgan Perkins, both which would land pro contracts after years of dominating for Texas A&M and leading us to a national title. The Aggies had zero playing experience behind those two and would have to utilize the portal to reload at the position. Returning at the middle position is Djurdja Stanojevic, who hardly saw playing time as a freshman from Serbia. The Aggies signed a powerful freshman in Lolufe Adedeji, but she wouldn't be an early enrollee. The Aggies would need to go into the portal, fresh off a historic national championship run. The Aggies would add Sharp and Castle.

Cos-Okpalla and Perkins stood at 6'2 and 6'1. Castle and Sharp stand at 6'4 and 6'3 respectively. There will be a battle for the two middle spots, but Castle comes in with a year of experience at the Big 10 level. Her size and reach are extremely impressive, but what makes her great is her quickness. Cos-Okpalla and Perkins were unstoppable thanks to their lateral quickness and explosiveness. One thing we saw in the spring was Castle's quickness at the net and ability to run a slide behind the setters on the right side.

Replacing what we had at the middle position for the last 3 years will be extremely difficult, however Castle and Sharp will be excellent starting points in achieving such. Castle has so much potential. We saw Eliza Sharp become the redshirt freshman of the year in the Mountain West. However, I think Castle has potential through the roof. She's the second best prospect out of high school on our roster. Her accolades at the prep level speak for themselves. I think here at Texas A&M, Castle's potential is sky high and this coaching staff will extract so much ability from her. Going into Jamie Morrison's first year, he'd hand the reigns at the middle position to a sophomore who had sparingly played in Cos-Okpalla and a sophomore who shined, but for a non tournament team for Oklahoma in Perkins.

While theres still a battle to be had throughout this summer and early fall. We'll have great options at the middle position. Castle's size and athletic ability are very rare and give her the tools needed to shine for Texas A&M. What really separates Castle is her energy. She plays with so much heart and she plays like she is in love with this game. Whether it's emphatic yells after a block or kill or perhaps her hitting the Heisman pose like she did this past spring. It's evident that Castle will always bring life and energy to this team. A trait that is always needed from the middle position. Castle seems like a great teammate, one that will help continue and build A&M's volleyball culture. She's a light to this team, she's very present on social media, especially TikTok and she even has a YouTube channel where she vlogs.

I am really excited to see how Castle's career unfolds here in Aggieland. She has 3 years of eligibility at the least and she adds to the promising young core on this Aggie roster. She is one of 8 sophomores on the roster. We just saw what a group of 9 seniors accomplished at Texas A&M in their final year. With an elevated standard and championship mindset, it's amazing to see us have such a talented and large core of underclassmen to watch develop and compete. Castle will help carry on the winning tradition here for Texas A&M Volleyball. We all loved setting the middles and used it as a battle cry last season. I guarantee you after watching Castle, we'll quickly be shouting once again to SET THE MIDDLES!!!!

Here's a vlog from Castle from one of the spring matches.

Lily Nicholson

We've met our freshman and two of our transfers, now let's get into our final two transfers and our only two seniors. We'll kick things off with senior setter Lily Nicholson who joined this January from Florida State.

Nicholson is a true senior from the recruiting class of 2023. She's played 3 seasons, 2 at TCU, then last year at Florida State. Nicholson was in the same recruiting cycle as Kyndal Stowers and Margot Manning, however the latter two have used a rmedical edshirt year. Nicholson played high school volleyball for McKinney North where she was teammates with freshman Gabi Rodriguez for a year and coached by Rodriguez's mother Libby Rodriguez. As a 4 year letterman, Nicholson amassed over 3000 assists and helped pave the way for a new standard at McKinney North. She would go on to earn multiple all state teams and in her senior year she was an AVCA First Team All American. Despite the all american status, she was the 95th best recruit in Texas. She'd go on and commit to first year coach Jason Williams at TCU becoming one of his first high school commitments. She's commit towards the end of her junior year. On the club scene she'd play for Drive Nation where she saw lots of success and played with many other power 4 commits. Nicholson's older sister Paige played 4 years at Oklahoma.

Her first season at TCU, she would see the court a tiny bit early on but she was behind Mizzou transfer setter Riley Buckley. After Buckley medically retired towards the end of the season, Nicholson would take over the setting responsibilities as a freshman. She would ease into the roll and collect over 600 assists as a freshman as TCU would make the tournament. Nicholson would have 46 assists in their first round game in a win against, ironically, Florida State. They'd fall in the second round, but it was clear Nicholson established herself as TCU's setter.

With Nicholson having some experience under her belt and some strong returners, TCU would improve their win total and get back into the tournament. Nicholson at setter formed a strong relationship with dynamic hitter Melanie Parra who'd go on to earn first team All American honors. Nicholson would surpass 1000 assists and average just under 10 assists per set. TCU would unfortunately fall in the second round again.

Nicholson would enter the portal after 2 seasons and transfer to Florida State. Florida State would pick up multiple setters in the transfer portal and would go on to run a 6-2 system that involves 2 setters rotating every 3 rotations in the back row only. She's split reps and pick up 594 assists at 5.08 assists per set. Florida State would not make the tournament. Nicholson would start her spring semester at Florida State but soon after it began, Florida State coach Chris Poole would announce his retirement. Nicholson would then enter the portal hoping to land somewhere before registration would end for the spring semester.

On January 23rd, Nicholson would announce her signing to the reigning national champions. She would enroll possibly before that, just before the deadline for spring semester enrollment. She'd quickly move to College Station, begin classes, and get into the practice gym. For the last two season's the Aggies were led at setter by Maddie Waak. Waak led a versatile and dynamic offense with her quick setting and quick and smart decision making. Waak spent her first two seasons at LSU, but really elevated her game here at Texas A&M. She's set A&M to a national championship where in said tournament, opposing teams were puzzled and frustrated having to defend Waak and her hitters all over the court.

Moving on from all american setter Maddie Waak, the Aggies would return two setters in Margot Manning and Kirra Musgrove. In 2024, Manning would play behind Waak and serve as a serving substitute, but this past season she would injure herself preseason and miss the entirety of the 2025 season with a leg injury. A freshman, Musgrove came in as a 5 star recruit and would come in as a blocking sub for Waak in some matches. With Manning and Musgrove in the setting room, it was unsure if the Aggies were set at the position or if they would add another. Both are capable of running our offense. It seemed there wouldn't be any additions after the portal window, but due to the coaching change at FSU, the Aggies were able to add Nicholson. It seemed Morrison and co would only go after a setter if the fit was right. Being selective they would go on to add Nicholson to its roster and get her here to compete for the job and develop some chemistry with her new hitters.

Nicholson would impress in the spring. Her experience at the college level was evident and her leadership and quick thinking would be put on display. She's get reps with 1's as did Manning and Musgrove. Some argue that Nicholson separated herself from the other setters, although the competition will most likely continue into this summer and into fall camp. We've seen the past few seasons, that Morrison loves to run an up tempo offense that spreads the ball around to all its hitters. Nicholson is also a great passer as well. That versatility is something Morrison loves in his players.

Waak had a plethora of weapons to work with like Lednicky, Cos-Okpalla, Perkins, Stowers, and Hellmuth. Nicholson will bring back the tournament mvp in Kyndal Stowers, one of the best hitters in the country. Just like she set to Parra at TCU, having Stowers on your outside will make things easy for any setter. The Aggies added another all american in Natalie Ring (who I'll cover next), a couple new freshman and middle blockers and return hitters like Taryn Morris, Megan Fitch, and Amare Hernandez. These are some excellent weapons, but one thing that will be hard to replace is the timing and chemistry that Waak had with her weapons.

Whether it's Nicholson or another setter, or perhaps we run a 6-2 offense and use multiple setters, the most important thing is our setters developing on court chemistry with our hitters. That timing and chemistry will grow as the season goes on and us being thrown into the fire with an extremely hard non conference schedule will test us early. If Nicholson wins the job I believe she can be a great asset and leader for us. Waak was setting for a non tournament in LSU, then led A&M to a sweet sixteen the next year and a national championship in the next. Nicholson is comfortable running an up tempo offense. I'm really interested how this position battle breaks out. I have faith in all of them, but more importantly in our coaching staff.

Filling Waak's shoes may be difficult, but I'm excited to see who steps up. Nicholson wanted to find a home closer to home for her last year of eligibility (maybe 2 years if the 5 in 5 rule passes). She'd come back home to Texas, join the reigning national champions and get straight to work. By all accounts she's a great teammate, a great leader, and an even greater person. This year she will wear the number 12, which means something. I know she will represent that number and this team very well.

Natalie Ring

With one newcomer yet to introduce for the revamped 2026 Texas A&M Volleyball team, we'll dive Natalie Ring. A well accomplished and dominant outside hitter who comes to Aggieland after 4 years at Marquette. Ring comes to Aggieland after a dominating season where she carried the Golden Eagles to a near upset over 2 seeded Louisville and earned herself a 3rd Team AVCA All American honor, All Big East, AVCA All Region, and much more.

Natalie Ring hails from Madison, Wisconsin where she attended Edgewood High School and graduated in 2022. She was a 4 year letterman and consistently had Edgewood winning regional titles and competing as one of the best teams in the state of Wisconsin. She was a 4 time all state selection and her senior year she was an AVCA 2nd Team All American. She was listed as the number 140 recruit in the country as she would go on to commit to Marquette, who's consistently been strong at volleyball. She played her club volleyball for Capital Volleyball Academy, which is one of Wisconsin's premier volleyball clubs and has been home to many big name volleyball players in the Midwest.

As a freshman Ring, sparingly saw the court on a loaded Marquette team that hosted in the NCAA tourney and won 29 games before falling in the sweet sixteen to eventual champion tu. However she shined in her limited opportunities. She's go on to sit out all of 2023. But in 2024 it was Ring's time to step up. Marquette would take on a large role in Marquette's offense. They'd win 29 games and it was Ring's play in the ncaa tourney that helped her team advance back to the sweet sixteen after a down year in 2023. In her ncaa tourney debut she had 11 kills in round then 16 kills and 7 digs in round 2. She finished the year with 244 kills at 2.62 per set.

However it was 2025 that saw Natalie Ring explode on the floor and become a household name nationally. She was not only a key piece of Marquette's offense, for all intents and purposes, she was Marquette's offense. A six rotation player, Marquette went to Ring from everywhere on the court and she would deliver. She wound up 3 kills shy of 500 kills for the season, averaging an astounding 4.60 kills per set. She reached double digit kills in all 29 matches she played and had over 20 kills in 8 matches. She even had 34 kills on the season, which is something that will help us tremendously. She carried Marquette to a 3-0 sweep over a strong western Kentucky team in round 1 and in a match most Aggies were tuned into, she single handily almost took down Louisville at Louisville in a tight 5 set match where she had 29 kills. It seemed like every play was ran for her despite Louisville's strong block keying in on her all night long. It was a display of sheer heart and talent.

After completing her bachelor's degree, Ring would enter the portal as one of the top hitters in the country. The 3rd Team All American was looking for a place for her final year of eligibility. Right in between a national championship and Christmas Day, the great news and momentum carried on Ring would publicly announce her commitment to the reigning champs. After reaching new heights and taking Texas A&M to the pinnacle of the sport, it was clear that 2025 was not some magical run with a senior group. Morrison was ready to reload. He came out swinging with this singing and it sent a message to the volleyball world that Texas A&M Volleyball was here to stay.

Morrison was no stranger to the portal. The year prior he added former 5 star Kyndal Stowers, the year prior he added the likes Maddie Waak, Emily Hellmuth, Taylor Humphrey, and Tatum Thomas. Now he'd land an all american and continue the momentum this program has been building. Landing Ring sent that message. It would kickstart the transfer portal season that saw the Aggies add 3 other players, all mentioned above in Castle, Sharp, and Nicholson.

The Aggies lost a lot of hitting power to graduation, only returning Kyndal Stowers. Hellmuth and Humphrey graduated and we were thin at the OH position. Adding Ring to pair with Stowers gives A&M one of the best outside hitting duos in the country. There will be little rest when facing our offense knowing you have to account for both hitters. Like Stowers, Ring is an excellent passer. At Marquette, they set Ring a lot of back row attacks. Something we hardly ran last year. Ring and Stowers are going to give opposing coaches nightmares without a doubt.

Ring has one of the most powerful arms in the country. Her swing can put dents into gyms and in an up tempo offense with some strong middles, Ring will flourish. Ring is well rounded in her game, she's a strong blocker as well, and she's got a strong serve. The Aggies picked it up in the tourney, but one thing we lacked throughout the season was strong serving aside from Cos-Okpalla. Ring will up our serving game.

Aside from the accomplished and clearly talented game on the court, what Natalie Ring brings is a veteran presence. She's the oldest on the team, she brings experience and leadership that a young team like us will need. According to her former coach, Ring is one of the hardest working athletes he's ever been around. In matches she always seems poised yet energetic. Easing a new setter into the starting lineup will be a whole lot easier with Ring on the outside. She impressed this spring and will only continue to get better. One thing I'm a big fan of was his quickly she became involved and was often seen at other Aggie sporting events.

She's always been a clutch player and rose to the occasion when her team needed her the most. She'll have better weapons around her so she won't be asked to carry an entire game, but we can always count on her to get us a point when needed. Ring is also a competitive golfer. The other day she posted a hole in one she received. While she may be terrorizing fairways this summer, come fall and especially come December, she'll be terrorizing opposing defenses with her monster swing. I expect Natalie Ring to become a second time all american and help A&M make some noise in the tourney once again. It's time for Ring to win some rings (sorry I had to )

Here's Ring's power on a back row attack!!!

Well my fellow Aggie Volleyball National Championship fans, meet our newcomers! 4 freshman, 4 transfer portals, and a freshman who I wrote about just for her to transfer to Tech

8 new players after losing 9 seniors. Hopefully this will help us all learn a little more about this team. We've seen Lednicky and her powerful left arm, Cos-Okpalla and her blocks, Perkins quick slams, Waak setting, Underwood flying in the back row. It'll be a transition with so many new faces in the court. I hope this helps with that!! It's not a rebuild, it's a reload! These newcomers will help with that! Hope you enjoy
