Under Armour All American game - Media Day
I just settled in at the Orlando World Marriott for the Under Armour All American game media day event. Players should be arriving here within the next hour or so, and I'll post some quick hitting updates as they arrive. I'll obviously focus on the A&M trio that will be here, but I'll also grab some notes from familiar names during this 2020 cycle. Some Monday Recruiting Notes
Brauny was on top of everything Javonne Shepherd yesterday, but I've checked a few different sources and they back up Brauny's reports. Shepherd had a great time and the Aggies rolled out the red carpet. We will see what happens down the stretch with visits to Alabama, Georgia, and Texas on his mind, but from what I heard Texas A&M gave him a lot to think about. The Aggies will be Georgia to visit with CB Jay Ward this week, and he is planning to take an official to College Station this weekend. Coach Linguist is leading the Aggies' efforts and there is no doubt getting him on campus will be a big step as he heads toward a signing day decision. LSU seems to hold the edge right now, but we'll see what happens down the stretch.Lancaster 2020 CB Lorando Johnson continues to mention the Aggies in his top three with LSU and Arkansas. The Tigers hold an edge here, and playing in the SEC and DB coaching are two of this top factors. Coach Linguist leads the efforts for the Aggies and he likes the Aggie's physical style of play. He said he does not have any junior day plans but I would expect him to be in College Station this spring.Look for Dallas Carter DT Branard Wright to be at A&M's next junior day. Coach Robinson has connected well with him and he has some family ties to the Aggies with Buddy Johnson currently in College Station.Denton Ryan ATH Drew Sanders continues to keep in touch with the Texas A&M staff. He feels pretty good about his commitment to Oklahoma but a junior day visit to College Station is a possibility. Weatherford 2020 QB Ken Seals continues to keep in touch with offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey, and he is keeping a close eye on the Aggies. Right now, the only trip on his schedule is to Vanderbilt's junior day. Oregon is coming on strong and Florida State is picking up interest with Kendal Briles out there now. Lone Star 2020 WR Marvin Mims is hearing quite a bit from TCU, as well as Oklahoma State, Purdue, UCLA, and others. Texas A&M has also been in touch and the lines of communication remain open. His only visit plans at this time is a trip to Oklahoma State in March.Top performers at the Next Level Athlete camp at Hurst LD Bell yesterday and Skys the Limit in Lewisville.- Lorando Johnson, Chris Thompson, Drew Sanders, Darius Snow, JoJo Earle, Majik Rector, and Ken Seals all performed as you would expect, and that means they were really good.-Dallas Skyline 2021 WR Quaydarius Davis - Write the name down. He's committed to SMU, but things are about to get really hot for the 2021 standout. Kansas offered last week and at 5-11, 185, he is turning heads with his speed and physical play.-DeSoto 2021 DE Shemar Turner - 6-foot-3, 255, and very little fat on his big frame. He was the most consistently dominant DE yesterday and earned DL MVP honors. Baylor was the first to offer but this is an SEC type of guy who will be a top prospect in the state. -Fort Worth All Saints 2021 OL Tommy Brockermeyer - He put on a clinic yesterday, and he took home OL MVP honors. He's a big framed guy with great technique. He quickly handled all competition and showed the makings of a stud offensive tackle. On the recruiting front, Texas sure looks hard to beat. He's a Longhorn legacy and his brother walked on last year.-Highland Park 2021 LB Patrick Turner - We talked about Turner during the state championships, and he had another big day at NLA. He was a top five LB at the event and moved well in space. He's a solidly build prospect at 6-1, 220 and he did well even in 1-on-1 passing drills against RBs. Boston College is showing interest and I expect more to jump on board soon. -Lubbock-Cooper 2022 LB Kobie McKinzie - This was a guy I was excited to see on Sunday and he did not disappoint. He is already 6-2, 225 and he has a great build and some nice length to his frame. The nation's top colleges will find their way to Lubbock to recruit this guy. I look for him to be heavily recruited.-Nolan Catholic 2022 RB Emeka Megwa - He is a solid 6-0, 215. He is a thick thighed, quick footed, big back with speed. Honestly, he reminds me a bit of the first time I saw Devin White walk into a camp. I didn't know who he was but I knew I needed to find out. It will be interesting to see how he grows and develops over the next few years but he already holds offers from Baylor and Florida.-Lewisville 2022 WR Armani Winfield - The 6-2, 180-pound wide out is a long, fluid athlete. He is a smooth route runner with the ability and instincts to attack the ball. He already holds offers from North Texas and Baylor.-A few new 2020s who caught my attentionLittle Elm CB Ryan Watts - 6-2, 180, big framed and showed very well in one-on-ones. He made the final group of CBs and after the camp he earned his first offer from Illinois State. Frisco Reedy OL Nathan Anderson - New to the OL position in 2018 after moving from DE to OT, and he looked like a natural at 6-5, 260. His film is some of the nastiest (in a good way) in the state. He worked at RT at NLA and was one of the top OLs in attendance. UNT has offered and he took a trip to Texas A&M during bowl practice.Southlake Carroll TE Blake Smith - A QB turned TE, he impressed with his routes and hands, and of course his size. He checked in at 6-5, 240 yesterday. I honestly thought he was 2020 OT Andrej Karic when I first saw him. He does not have an offer yet, but interest has come from the likes of Baylor, Oregon, and Arkansas so far.
