A few recruiting notes and thoughts from DeSoto/Allen
DeSoto cruised to a convincing 39-7 win over Allen last night in the Tom Landry Classic with QB DJ Bailey and DL Jason Douglas taking home MVP honors from the contest. 2025 RB Deondrae Riden left the game with an injury in the first half. It was a scary moment as he was carted off the field, but he is in good spirits this morning. He suffered a dislocated elbow. It was quickly popped back into place and there were no broken bones. It is unknown just how long he will be out, but it appears he is primed for a quick recovery. So glad to report DeSoto (TX) 2025 RB Deondrae “Tiger” Riden is in good spirits this morning and feeling good. Before the injury he rushed for 76 yards and a TD on 17 carries and he had a two-yard reception. DeSoto 2027 WR Ethan Feaster saw some early targets and converted on an early third down. He felt blessed to start on varsity as a freshman and says he didn't have any nerves going into the night. He finished his varsity debut with two receptions for 16 yards, and he is excited for the season.DeSoto (TX) 2027 WR Ethan “Boobie” Featsr made his varsity debut and had a key 3rd down conversion on the Eagles first drive. Texas A&M and other have already made him a top target, he plans to get back to Aggieland this fall@BoobieFeaster23 | @FootballDesoto | @TA_Recruiting pic.twitter.com/5dAhw1bGq5— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) August 26, 2023
He plans to get back to Texas A&M for a game. He did not have any particular game in mind but he mentioned getting out for some SEC action. He also plans to visit LSU, and he said he will visit TCU for their game against Colorado. 2025 WR Daylon Singleton had the biggest highlights of the Texas A&M targets. He showed plenty of speed and burst as led the Eagles with four receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He had a couple of miscues on special teams trying to make something happen, but the wiggle and the quick strike ability were easy to see. He felt doubted so last night it felt good to get out and showcase his abilities. DeSoto (TX) 2025 WR Daylon Singleton stepped up big tonight with 2 early TDs. The quickness and breakaway speed were on full display. Already holds an offer from Texas A&M and many others@akaSweet13 | @FootballDesoto | @TA_Recruiting #GigEm pic.twitter.com/SD9aOPDxgp— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) August 26, 2023
He already holds an offer from Texas A&M. He is hearing the most SMU, UTSA, and Nebraska right now and he does not have any visit plans coming up. 2025 S Sael Reyes was rocking the Texas A&M visor last night. He borrowed it from his brother and former Texas A&M S Antonio Johnson, and he enjoyed his first game in Texas. "It was amazing today. The best day of my life really," Reyes said. "The environment, especially at Allen, the student section and everything, it was crazy."DeSoto (TX) standout 2025 S Sael Reyes. 1st game in Texas, wearing his brother Antonio Johnson’s visor. He continues to hear from the Texas A&M, OU, and others@reyes_sael | @FootballDesoto | @TA_Recruiting #GigEm pic.twitter.com/HE6fBK5WNi— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) August 26, 2023
On the recruiting front he wants to get out to several game days. He mentioned Oklahoma, Oregon, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and Texas as possibilities. He knows how he fits into the Texas A&M defense, and he feels he is locked in and has a good relationship with BGA and the Texas A&M staff. I did not get to catch up with Allen 2024 Zina Umeozulu after the game. Overall though I felt he showed well. He was active throughout the night. They moved him back to linebacker at times. He is still getting some of the angles and learning how to see the game from the second level, but he moved well and had a solid showing in his 2023 season opener. As for those MVPs DeSoto QB and Sam Houston commit DJ Bailey finished the night completing 14 of 19 passes for 222 yards and 3 TDs and he had two carries for 22 yards. Very efficient night and as usual he threw a really good ball. He's a big reason why I think DeSoto has a strong chance to repeat. DeSoto DL Jason Douglas checks in at about 6-3, 260 and he is a disruptive presence along the defensive front. He earned defensive MVP in last year's state championship game and he showed strong again in the 2023 season opener. I don't have his tackle numbers but big 48 was making things happen down in the trenches. He currently holds offers from Memphis, Utah State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Arizona State, Kent State, Fordham, Wyoming, Louisiana Tech, Howard, Fresno State, Liberty, Toledo, Grambling, Sam Houston, Colgate, UNT, Marshall, Colorado State, Lindenwood, Lamar, Jackson State, Arkansas State, Alcorn State, and Texas State.
