I've been working the phones a bit the last couple of days in an effort to get some updates on some of the Aggies' top targets. Here's what I've been able to piece together. 1) Let's start with the state's top offensive prospect in Lake Belton WR Micah Hudson. He and his teammates lost a heartbreaker last night to Red Oak in overtime. However, Micah flashed the elite athletic gifts that make him one of the top overall prep players in America. Texas Tech is still considered the favorite, but from my understanding, this thing is fairly open. Hudson is expected in Lubbock this weekend to watch the Red Raiders take on Oregon. The Aggies haven't gone anywhere though - far from it, actually. The coaching and recruiting staff has stayed in consistent communication with Hudson's camp, and I believe we'll see him make his way to campus fairly soon. It wouldn't surprise me to see him pop into town next week, but that's far from set it stone at this point. I do anticipate an official visit taking place this fall. I'm keeping an eye on the Alabama weekend there. A couple of questions to ponder here: A) Do outcomes affect the recruitment? In other words, if Tech struggles, does that push open the door for the Aggies (or others) to walk through? Or, are the relationships with Joey Maguire and his staff enough to overcome that?B) What's been the hold up on actually committing to the Red Raiders? 2) After calling around last night, I think things are getting a little murkier for Summer Creek LB Xavier Atkins. Now, when I say murkier, I'm not talking about A&M's pursuit or their good-standing. What I mean is that the anticipated decision date that was fast approaching could be moving back. It also seems/feels like Xavier has taken a step back from the recruiting process as he's gotten settled into the actual football season. I'm hoping to get a little clearer picture throughout the weekend or early next week as I hear back from some contacts in Houston. From what I know, LSU, Arkansas, and Utah continue to be the main competition. 3) Not much new on top cornerback targets Kobe Black (Waco Connally) and Terry Bussey (Timpson) based on some phone calls I made last night. The Aggies continue to be standing in the middle of the ring and trying to land a knockout blow for both. Of the two, I tend to favor A&M's chances more with Bussey. I've also been skeptical of whether or not he would stick to that September 28th commitment date due to his busy visit schedule throughout the season, but an east Texas contact of mine said last night that they believe Terry will indeed announce at the end of the month. 4) 2025 Red Oak DE Kamauryn Morgan told me last night that he would be visiting Texas A&M next weekend. 5) Two Houston area offensive lineman who I expect to catch major helium in the next rankings update are Jonte Newman of Bridgeland and Dramodd Odoms of Houston Lamar. Both kids are off to impressive starts to their junior seasons. The Aggies are currently positioned well for both. 6) Heard last night that Statesboro (GA) ATH Kam Mikell is still very much on the A&M radar and should be finding his way to College Station for an official visit at some point this season. On the other hand, I didn't get the vibe were very much in the current picture for his teammate, DE Amontrae Bradford. I'll circle back on Bradford though because my source there was less confident about exactly what he had going on.
