TexAgs Spring Football Tour: Omar Manning and Lancaster High School
Today I hit the road for my first spring football assignment for TexAgs, and Lancaster has been a priority visit even before I knew I would be working for TexAgs. It was great catching up with recruiting coordinator Courtney Allen and head coach Chris Gilbert and watch some practice. There were several colleges in attendance including Billy Napier from Alabama and Brian Jean Marie from Texas, and there is plenty of talent up and down the roster. The key target for Texas A&M is wide receiver Omar Manning. The 6-3, 210-pound playmaker has some nice bulk on his frame, and he showed off the moves that have made him one of the top receivers in the country. Great footwork, crisp cuts, and then pure physical ability to body out a defender or go up and get the ball. There has been a lot of talk and speculation about Manning leaning one way or the other with much of that leader speculation surrounding TCU and he did not confirm or deny whether TCU was currently at the top. Manning has played his cards close to his vest throughout the process, but today he did admit he has a feel for his current top 15 and he plans to announce a top 10 around the start of summer. As for Texas A&M, I look for the Aggies to be among his top 10 whenever he does announce his list. When talking about the Aggies he mentioned a strong bond with receivers coach Aaron Moorehead. He admitted last week's tweets initially made him think about some things regarding A&M, but after some thought it has not impacted where A&M stands with him.He does not have any visits scheduled, but he does plan to visit Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida, Ohio State, and Michigan, and around the area he plans to visit Texas A&M, Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma. As for a decision, he wants to make a preseason decision, but he also wants to take some official visits. So he's still trying to get all of that sorted out. Either way it sounds like he's not planning to do anything too serious for a little while.*************While at Lancaster I also caught up with 2019 receiver Jayce Medlock, the son of Jason Medlock who played for the Aggies. Jayce is 6-0.5, 180 and he is being groomed for the role Manning is currently playing. He spent the 2015 season at Dallas First Baptist Academy and is in his first spring at Lancaster. He is still very much a pup and it looks like he will add some very nice size over the next few years. Texas Tech has already shown him quite a bit o interest and he plans to camp at LSU and Houston and a few others. **********Other prospects to watch are DLs Noah Jones and Treston Price have great size and will be worth watching in the fall. 2018 QB Trevor Hatton (6-0, 180) has coaches excited about the future of the QB position. Cartrell Thomas is a cat quick, undersized slot drawing a lot of attention. Texas Tech and Colorado currently lead the way but he continues to add offers. Tulane just offered and it sounds like Wisconsin and Illinois are getting close as well.************Quick note: It was really cool seeing some of the Lancaster alums back checking out practice. There were more than a few including Texas A&M DB Nick Harvey was there as was recent Pittsburgh Steeler and former Houston Cougar Demarcus Ayers. We'll have a video soon

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
