Cade Brewer

Texas' high school football season came to an end this weekend as teams took home state titles for their respective divisions. With those titles came big performances from some of the state's top players and a host of new names.

I spoke with 2017 Lake Travis TE/HBack Cade Brewer for a minute this evening. Texas A&M offered Cade late last week. Brewer committed to SMU back in April. A source close to Brewer called him "an absolute stud" and went on to say "A&M needs to land this kid," inferring that he's going to blow up soon. Cade said he's been in touch with Jeff Banks primarily. He has been hearing a consistent message from the A&M staff - you can come in and play. Brewer said the Aggie coaches have mentioned how his skill set fits into what their trying to do offensively. When I asked him specifically what those skills were, he said mainly his versatility. He said he's fast for being a bigger guy so that creates problems in the secondary, but he can also block a defensive end on the line of scrimmage if necessary. With only Aaron Hansford seemingly fitting that HBack role in the current roster, it's pretty easy to see where Brewer would find snaps. Brewer said he committed to SMU for a variety of reasons - the location of the school, the offense, his relationship with Chad Morris, and the fact that he's got a cousin on the team now. In regards to A&M, Cade says he hasn't planned a visit yet, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out. Some may think this would be an easy flip for the Aggies, but the A&M staff is going to have to work here build that relationship and sell Brewer on being an Aggie.
