A few quarterback notes
A&M offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey was in San Antonio today to see Jacob Zeno throw the ball around. When I was in the Alamo city last week, I was told by two sources that an A&M offer may spur a commitment from the Jay HS quarterback. Keep an eye on that. It'll be interesting to see if Dickey liked what he saw enough to make that offer.I've also been told Dickey will check out San Angelo gunslinger Maverick McIvor who just picked up an offer from...

Tuesday recruiting quick hitters
-As you may have seen on Twitter, Tim Brewster was out in Arizona. We've heard stud WR Jake Smith actually reached out to A&M so the Aggies got out there as quick as they could. Still think Jimbo and company are playing from behind, but they've got the firepower to catch up if given time. -If you're looking for who might be next, keep an eye on Andrew Coker. He openly told people he wanted to make a May decision, and it's now May. -Hallsville OL Blake Trainor is...

Coaches on the road
Here's some stuff that Jason and I have gotten over the last day or so...A lot of people saw the Twitter post with Isaiah Spiller's father, Fred, and RB coach Jay Graham yesterday. I heard Graham spent the majority of the day at Klein Collins. It wasn't just a quick sit down. He met with a lot of folks that are important to Spiller. It seems like Isaiah is becoming more of a priority at the moment. Terry Price is making the rounds in Houston today to see commit Braedon...

Some more Sunday recruiting notes
-I've been told members of the A&M staff will be in San Antonio tomorrow to see DL commit DeMarvin Leal and possibly SA Jay QB Jacob Zeno. -A source with knowledge on Javonne Shepherd says he'll wait to make a decision after all his officials...this is a similar plan to Kenyon Green -Keep an eye on Dickinson TE Jalen Wydermyer. Folks down there talking like he may be getting close to a decision.-It sounds to me like A&M would take Andrew Coker and Blake Trainor...

What to watch for this weekend...
There's been a lot of content this week on the site (Jason has been killing it) so I wanted to make a post to kind of consolidate some of the recruiting stuff and give y'all a quick snapshot. CommitmentsIf you set the over under at 1.5, I may take the over. Given the current momentum with guys like Baylor Cupp, Marcus Stripling, Akinola Ogunbiyi, Kendal Septs, Chris Thompson and Bryce Foster, I just think the Aggies make a couple of additions either during or right...

Strengths

I have seen Jacob play in person once and at the Opening. I think he is the best NFL quarterback prospect the moment he walks on campus. He has a very strong arm, solid mobility, and great field awareness. He also has an uncanny ability to throw on the run. This is something that shows up on his junior and senior film as well, the ability to make throws that are off schedule. When he has to get outside of the pocket and find players downfield he keeps his head up and thinks pass first. Another positive is his leadership ability which makes him special. He took a team that was 0-10 when he was a sophomore and made them a 7-4 playoff team the next year as the starting quarterback. In his two seasons as the starter, Jay high school won 13 games which is as many as the program had won the previous five years combined. He was never playing with the best talent but still found ways to win quite a few games.

Weaknesses

His stats his senior year have to be a concern but Zeno did not have the best talent around him which led to quite a few drops, bad routes, and missed assignments. He only had 1,800 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns on the year but again his receivers and play calling did not give him much of a chance. The running back for Jay had 70 more carries than Zeno had pass attempts. So while there are concerns there are answers to most of these. The one area that I want to see him improve is his accuracy though. For his career he is well below 55% and yes his receivers are a part of this he has to take some blame too. Ball placement and touch are the two things that I think will help his accuracy the most.

How I see him fitting in at Baylor

He is a top 15 quarterback recruit in the entire country and he has all the tools to be very successful. I think he will push for the 2nd string spot all spring since he early enrolled. Whether he gets it or not does not matter because I think that try out could last all season. Hopefully Baylor gets up big on some teams early in the season so we can see him in a few games this year.

His film and offers combined with what he did to elevate his high school program give him one of the highest ratings in the 2019 class for the Bears.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
