John Lanz

Today I kicked off my spring tour with a morning stop at Denton High and a quick afternoon stop over at Denton Guyer. Guyer is the home to the prospect with the most recent news involving the Aggies. Offensive Lineman John Lanz (6-4, 290) was in College Station for the Aggies' Friday Night Lights scrimmage, and met with coach Jim Turner. He was also able to tour the campus.The Aggies are showing interest in Lanz as a center, but have not offered. Coach Turner did let Lanz known he plans to stop by Guyer in the spring to watch him. Texas A&M has caught Lanz's attention along with Texas - who also is looking at him at center and has not offered - TCU and Baylor who have both offered.Lanz has received nine scholarship offers in total and has been busy making the rounds. The weekend after his trip to College Station he was at Oklahoma State, and this Friday he will make his way to Colorado for a day trip. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/8032869/58364b275b3cd824500062e1*****************Guyer is also home to one of my favorite under the radar DTs, Arian Bhat. I still can't figure out why schools like Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, and Tulsa are not all over this guy. The 6-2, 270-pound defender will be a steal for someone. Quarterback Luke Stillwell (6-4, 190) is on the radar of several schools, and will see some traffic this spring. Tight end/H-back Josh Nicholson (6-3, 235) is also an intriguing guy to watch this spring.In the 2019 class safety Brent Jackson (6-1, 175) caught my attention during their weight lifting session. He is the younger brother of Northwestern signee and all-state selection Bryce Jackson. Down in the 2020 group a couple of names have also emerged for the Wildcats. Defensive tackle Grant Mahon (6-3, 255) is already under the watchful eye of coaches. He is the brother of former Coppell standout Blake Mahon who signed with Baylor in 2014. Running back Kaedric Cobbs (5-9, 200) has moved in from Melissa. He rushed for almost 1300 yards and earned district newcomer of the year honors as a freshman in 2016 at Melissa.*************My morning visit to Denton High also opened my eyes to a few prospects.Perhaps the most intriguing guy I saw today is 2018 sleeper Brandon Coleman. At 6-foot-5, 265-pounds, Coleman is very young in the game and he played JV last fall due to a transfer. He moved to Denton High from Germany, and even though he was on JV he made a quick impression on the Denton High coaching staff. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/851920741201321985He played basketball growing up - and JV this past season - and it shows in his footwork. He also has a big frame and long arms which are sure to draw attention this spring along with his flexibility.Since he does not have any varsity tape right now schools are taking a wait and see approach. However, do not be surprised if schools are drawn to his upside. Staying in the 2018 class, safety Anthony Tony-Itoyah is already attracting attention. He plans to visit Houston and he has received interest from SMU, Texas, and Oklahoma. He checks in at 6-2, 180, has clocked a 4.6 forty, recorded a 38-inch vertical, and earned first-team all-district honors in 2016. ********************A candidate to turn the most heads this spring is 2019 receiver Isaiah Wofford. He passes the eyeball test at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds and he earned district newcomer of the year honors this past fall. Nearly half of his 23 reception went for touchdowns (11) last fall, and with a 4.6 forty and a 38-inch vertical he is already drawing attention from Notre Dame. He also said he has always been interested in Texas A&M.https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6580118/58362be3dfd8b72524bcf2edThe 2019 class also include OC Jaden Oberkrom (6-2, 255) and LB Kyle Williamson (6-2, 200) who are both worth watching over the next few years.The upperclassmen are getting the attention right now and deservedly so, but the 2020 class is already generating some buzz.Outside linebacker Isaac Broades (6-2, 195) already has the look with long arms and plenty of room for weight. Quarterback Landry Kinne (6-0, 170) is the son of Denton assistant head coach Gary Joe Kinne. Athlete Marcellus Lockley (6-0, 170) is a standout in football, basketball, and baseball, and plays cornerback and receiver for the Broncos. Wide receiver Hunter Hope (6-0, 180) has turned some heads early on as well. Then there is lineman Devin Freeman (6-1, 270). He could project to either offense or defense at this time and wears a size 18 shoe.
