Sav'ell Smalls

- In case you missed it, there's been a swell of momentum for Texas with 2021 New Caney LB Derrick Harris Jr. It was actually something we'd heard about at the very start of the week, but we wanted to source it a little more before running anything. I can say that the A&M staff, including Elko and Peveto, have been in touch this week. Will it be enough to keep Harris away from making a pledge to the Horns? At this point, if it is, it'd probably have to be viewed as a small win for the A&M staff. - Staying at linebacker, Burien (WA) stud Sav'ell Smalls will be taking an official visit to College Station the weekend of the Alabama game. What's interesting is that we've heard Smalls' name come up with our sources very sparsely. After reaching out to some folks, it does sound like he's been a kid the A&M staff never gave in on, and I'm sure the people in Bright were pumped when they were able to grab an OV. That being said, this is a monster hill to climb for the Aggies. - Our recruiting staff expected that a new name or two may pop up at corner after Josh Eaton decided to delay his decision. Well, one of those names is Jacobe Covington from Scottsdale (AZ) powerhouse Saguaro HS. This was the same program that produced Christian Kirk a few years back, and he (Covington) announced via Twitter that he'd be taking an official visit to A&M on September 20th. Covington is one of the more highly touted defenders out in the desert. He stands 6-1, 195 pounds and holds offers from schools such as Oklahoma, Washington, LSU, Penn State, Nebraska, and many more. - Shadow Creek S Xavion Alford continues to inch toward a decision. He's pretty adamant that he wants to have the process done by the time the Sharks start their season so we are nearing the home stretch here. I know that Mike Elko has been in touch with Alford throughout the week, and obviously, Leon O'Neal will be plugged into any decision Alford makes. I'm also confident in saying this thing was decidedly Bama's about a month ago. The Aggies have done a great job of getting back on level footing. - Lastly, I was told this week that the battle for East St Louis (IL) S Antonio Johnson was, again, going to come down to Texas A&M and Alabama. Interestingly though, I was given information that made it sound like Bama wants Johnson at corner. If that information is indeed valid, I'd have to wonder how that would affect the final decision. Antonio is certainly athletic enough to play corner, but I think he projects much better and more seamlessly at safety.
