All-American Bowl Primer and check-in thread
Players are arriving in San Antonio for the All-American Bowl today, and we will try to get a few interviews as they check-in. I will be at check-in this afternoon and post updates in this thread as I get them. Practice begins on Tuesday and the game will be played at noon on Saturday, January 4 at the Alamodome. Four Texas A&M signees will play in the game. One on the West squad and three on the East squad. The number listed next to their name is their jersey number. He plans to take an official visit to Texas A&M in January. 5 LB Edgerrin Cooper, Covington (LA) - the former Oklahoma commit plans to announce his college destination at the game on Saturday. Utah has been a school to watch and Texas, Alabama, Mississippi State, and LSU have also been connected to the Louisiana standout. He took an official visit to Texas A&M in December. 18 QB Malik Hornsby, Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall recruited by the Aggies as an athlete. He is being pursued by others at QB and he has indicated QB is where he would like an opportunity. Purdue and Baylor are other schools to watch in his recruiting process and both are recruiting him at QB. A few Monday morning recruiting notes
The big question now that Ryan Watts is what will the Aggies do now. First, I do not expect the priorities to change much as Brauny pointed out on another thread. For one, the Aggies do have a commitment from the top CB in Texas, Jaylon Jones. I also look for Texas A&M to continue to pursue Watts. He has been a priority target for the coaches and there is still a long way to go before things are official. Blinn JC corner Marco Domio is also a high priority, and he has a shown a lot of interest in the Aggies since receiving his offer a couple of weeks ago. We have been saying this since his spring game visit, but I would put the Aggies at the top of his list. Aldine MacArthur CB Josh Eaton, Klein Oak DB Dwight McGlothern, and Broken Arrow (OK) DB Myles Slusher are a few other top targets to keep an eye on, as well as recently mentioned Christian Gonzalez of The Colony who should see the Aggies by his school in the near future. -On the running back front, I heard from a recent DFW source that Mesquite Poteet RB Seth McGowan continues to keep the Aggies high on his list and it looks like he will take a visit to College Station in the next few months. The Aggies were the only Texas team in his February top 8. -Phenix City (AL) Javion Cohen recently decommitted from South Carolina and he hit the road for stops at Georgia Tech and Auburn. Before committing to South Carolina, he had the Aggies high on his list and he has a strong bond with coach Henson. Since decommitting Henson and Cohen have been in touch and Cohen says the Aggies are definitely back in the mix. Now, the task will be getting him on campus, which Cohen says will likely have to be for an official visit and he is not planning to take those any time soon. Another OL to keep an eye on is Andrew Raym of Broken Arrow (OK). This is another prospect coach Henson has developed a good bond with dating back to before he was at A&M. I have heard from sources in Oklahoma there is mutual interest and I would not be surprised if the Aggies get an unofficial visit in the near future.-Tyler JC LB Maureese Wren is another intriguing prospect to watch. He visited this spring and he has stayed in touch with the Texas A&M staff. Look for the Aggies to be by TJC this week to check him out. He has official visits scheduled for Missouri (June 7) and Oregon State (June 21), and he will take an unofficial visit to Alabama on June 1.
A few recruiting notes from Saturday's Pylon 7v7
Broken Arrow (OK) Myles Slusher visited Texas A&M a few weeks ago and the Aggies are a school to watch for the Oklahoma talent. He does not have plans to return to College Station at this time but he says he will definitely be back. He has plans to visit Alabama and Oregon coming up.Lancaster 2020 CB Lorando Johnson continues to put the Aggies high on his list but LSU is the school to watch in this one. He plans to visit next week and the Tigers are a team he has always eyed. There has always been a lot of LSU buzz there and that has not changed.Dallas Jesuit 2020 ATH EJ Smith is one of the harder prospects to get a read on. He continues to keep in touch with Texas A&M and he has visited a few times. There is interest. He is keeping things close to his vest but he does have a visit coming up to Stanford.Dallas Bishop Dunne 2020 TE Elijah Yelverton continues to keep in touch with TE coach Joe Jon Finley, and the Aggies let him know they will watch him closely in the spring.
Major Burns re-opens his recruiting process (What we're hearing and what's next)
This morning Baton Rouge (LA) Madison Prep DB Major Burns announced he was re-opening his recruiting process.https://twitter.com/majorburns6/status/1110224792781762573I am told the Aggies remain in the mix, but he would like to take a look at his options especially with new offers from LSU, Oklahoma, and Florida. I've been told LSU is one program he is definitely interested in. Before decommitting he said he planned to visit Texas A&M on April 13, but from talking to people close to his recruiting process I get the feeling he will make visiting other programs he has yet to see more of a priority. He recently took a visit to LSU and he would like to visit Oklahoma and Florida. It also sounds like Georgia and Alabama are picking up interest. This is one we will continue to monitor and I expect the Aggies to keep up their pursuit. However, LSU is where I think this recruitment is heading. So where do the Aggies go from here?Burns is an aggressive DB with length, and he is quick to diagnose and attack the ball. The size gives him the ability to play both S and CB, but his recent performance has shown he has true cornerback ability. So that means it has a bit of an impact at a couple of spots. At cornerback the Aggies do have a firm commitment from top CB Jaylon Jones of Cibolo Steele, and the Aggies are also in great spots with big corners and high priority targets Ryan Watts and Josh Eaton.Watts visited Texas A&M last week with his mother and it sounds like the Aggies knocked the visit out of the park on every front. He released his top 10 and Texas A&M made the cut. Oklahoma has been thought to be the biggest competition here. Eaton has also taken a recent visit to Texas A&M, and the Aggies are high on his list along with the likes of Texas and Oregon. DB Dwight McGlothern is another top prospect who has remained high on the Aggies. At S there are a number of top options. East St. Louis (IL) S Antonio Johnson plans to visit this spring, and he has a great relationship with the staff. Broken Arrow (OK) DB Myles Slusher is a guy who can play both S and CB. He has already visited this spring, he put the Aggies in his top 10, and he plans to make a return visit to Aggieland in the future. Bowling Green (KY) standout Vito Tisdale has reciprocated interest in the Aggies, and in-state, Xavion Alford is a guy to watch.I look for them to continue to recruit Baton Rouge (LA) ATH Joel Williams, but I expect Burns re-opening things to impact Williams a good bit too.
