Aggie Flashback with former OL Louis Cheek

"I had committed to Coach Sherrill and that’s where I was going to go, but I couldn’t tell Coach Teaff at Baylor no. He’d been asking me to come visit no matter what, and I did. I was there for a big win over Arkansas and we went to the locker room after the game. Standing outside, here comes Jackie Sherrill in his suit looking like a million bucks. I never expected to see that. At the same time, the door opens and Taft pulls me in and I didn’t see Jackie the rest of the day."

"All the SWC schools except for Arkansas and Texas recruited me. A&M was the last one. Once I met with Coach Sherrill that was it."

"I got to play because Kenny Reeves injured his knee and Sherrill put me in at left tackle. Four games later I fractured my leg and Kenny came back in. Having said that, being a big eyed freshman, playing and having rehabbed, there was a sense throughout the team that we could win against anyone."

"I’m so proud of Joseph. Every day is just icing on the cake. I know he works hard and he’s going to get bigger and better. What Coach Jackson is doing with these boys is phenomenal."

"Losing Coach Turner and Sherman was tough because he had earned their respect. Coach Anderson has been great for him, he is a different style and it’s helped him move up. Earning a coaches respect means the world to a kid, I know it does to Joseph."

"This era is a little bit different for me. The offense doesn’t function like it did back in my day. I’ve never seen anything like it. I had my hand in the ground and I watch how balanced and powerful our guys are in a two-point stance. I admire the coaches for that."

"If you win up front, you’re going to have a chance to win every Saturday. The guys up front set the tone and everything else builds off it."

"It is a fun time to be an Aggie. How could you draw up losing a Heisman quarterback and having Hill step in and play like he is. I admire Coach Sumlin for pulling it off."

Great to hear from Louis Cheek. He was a manimal on the O-line back when I was there. I was a fan of his back in the day. As such, I have followed the progress of his son Joseph and I am pulling for his success. He is coming on strong just like his daddy. Like Louis said, two different styles of play, but Joe has adapted well to the modern style of play. Still kickin' azz with the Cheek manimal style, but from a two-point stance.

Louis Cheek was a beast. I'm so excited for him, getting to see his son take the field.
I wish somebody could post a clip of the Tsip game where Louis launched that LB (Brit Hager, I think) 5 yards deep into the bench.
