In “Miracle,” a movie about the 1980 USA hockey team that shocked the world by winning the Olympic gold medal, a lackluster effort in an exhibition game in Norway made coach Herb Brooks irate.
Brooks, who frequently asked team members who they played for (they always answered with their university), forced players to skate gassers until they were exhausted and vomiting on the ice.
Finally, Mike Eruzione gasped: “I play for the United States of America.”
That ended the torturous postgame workout.
