Texas A&M to take on Kansas State in AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl
Texas A&M will conclude its 2016 football season on Dec. 28th against Kansas State in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. The Aggies (8-4) face Big 12 representative Kansas State (8-4) at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is 8 p.m.
A&M will seek to put a positive end on a disappointing second half of the 2016 season. After a 7-1 start, A&M was slotted fourth in the initial College Football Playoff rankings and many projected the Aggies would represent the Southeastern Conference in the Sugar Bowl.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to compete against a coaching legend like Bill Snyder and the Kansas State Wildcats in the Texas Bowl,” Sumlin said. “A large portion of our team is from the Houston area, and we have a tremendous fan base in the city of Houston. We look forward to getting the chance to play in front of 12th Man in NRG Stadium, which is one of the top football venues in world.”
However, the Aggies struggled in the last month of the season with losses to Mississippi State, Ole Miss and LSU and an unimpressive, 23-10 victory over Texas-San Antonio.
That November swoon left the Aggies settling for a second-tier bowl game.
Texas A&M Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said “It’s an honor to accept the invitation for Texas A&M to play in the 2016 Advocare V100 Texas Bowl. NRG Stadium is a great setting for a bowl game, and I know the city of Houston will be a tremendous host for the team and our fans. It’s a great opportunity to play a game in the middle of a large concentration of Aggie fans against an opponent that is very well-known to the 12th Man.”
The Aggies were also reportedly being considered for the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C. and the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.
Kansas State finished fourth in the Big 12 with a 6-3 conference record. The Wildcats won five of their last six and closed the regular season with a 30-6 victory over TCU.
A&M most recently faced Kansas State in 2011 when both were members of the Big 12. Kansas State won that game, 53-50, in four overtimes.
