Notes from Olin's thoughts on Cline

• If they decide to really use the tight end then I think Kalvin Cline will be the starter. Last year, he had one catch for 17 yards. We’ve heard it for a few years, "We’re going to use the tight ends," but we never saw it. Maybe the situation and personnel dictates to use the tight end more. I think he could make a significant impact as a blocking tight end for the running game and inexperienced quarterbacks look for tight ends a lot. He’s also been productive as a receiver earlier in his career.
  
  
• The question is less about Kalvin Cline, it’s more about how the coaching staff decides to use the tight ends. If they decide to use the tight end, I don’t think it's a stretch to think he’s going to post something similar to his freshman year at Virginia Tech. I would welcome that. He has the ability and I think he is healthy. He looked good in the spring.
  
  
• I think he can be a valued member of the offense. Not the star by any means, but on a third and eight, with a young quarterback who isn’t sure what to do, hopefully Cline is a guy who can catch a short pass and break a tackle.
  
  
• I haven’t seen him enough. He doesn't strike me as that really athletic guy that could get deep, but I think Cline is a guy who can play this position well and make a valuable contribution.
  
  
• I love his size. That’s going to provide extra blocking. I’ll say it again, my question is not with Kalvin Cline as a player, it’s if the coaches will use that position and use him.
