Texas A&M Volleyball drops second straight, falls to Ole Miss, 3-1
Texas A&M dropped its second straight SEC match on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Ole Miss Rebels, 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-25 at Reed Arena.
Hollann Hans led the way with her second double-double of the season and a match-high 16 kills, Camille Conner dished out 39 assists and three Aggies notched double-figure digs.
“We can’t seem to get anything going for very long,” A&M head coach Laurie Corbelli said after the match. “It’s a little bit of fight here and there, but not the whole time. I don’t see a unit out there as a team.”
The Rebels jumped out to a lead in the first set, going up 8-2 and prompting Corbelli to call an early timeout. The Aggies responded by scoring three straight points to cut into the deficit, but after they closed the gap to 11-9, they could not get any closer.
A&M went ahead 9-5 in the second set, but a 10-2 Ole Miss run quickly followed, putting the Aggies on their heels for the remainder of the set. Freshman Morgan Davis entered the contest midway through, and the Ags scored six straight points. However, the Rebels scored four of the last five points to win the set.
“Morgan Davis came out and was just a beast,” Corbelli said of Davis, who recorded a career-high seven kills. “She’s a great blocker and loves to win. She works really hard, does that every day in practice and it was just time to get her on the floor. She was on fire today and helped us win set three for sure.”
Hans came alive in the third set with six kills, and Davis continued to spark the Aggies in the middle as they outhit the Rebels .200 to .176 and finished on a 9-2 run to avoid getting swept for the second-straight match.
Hans continued to fill the stat sheet with six more kills in the fourth set to go along with three digs and an ace, but A&M could not overcome a late Ole Miss surge to close the match.
“I have a lot of studying to do of our last two matches to make the changes we need to make,” Corbelli said. “We’ll have to have a staff meeting this week to see what changes we’re going to make. The team needs a shift in their mindset.”
The Aggies will return to Reed Arena on Friday, October 27, to take on Tennessee on Military Appreciation Night. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on SEC Network +.
