Key notes from Recruiting Country
- Some big official visits this weekend as Haynes King and Michael Carmody are going to be on campus.
- A&M had to get Michael Carmody back this weekend. Jason Howell said they had to get him this weekend because the rest of his summer is planned out with visits Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan and then other family vacations. It's good that A&M is getting him back so quickly. I imagine much of this visit will be eng. based and network based because he liked that a lot.
- A lot of out of state kids, they don't know about A&M until they get here. Same with Carmody. He's probably the east coast kid that A&M is highest on. It would be an impressive get just because of all the other schools the Ags are going up against. I think Notre Dame is way down the list. West Virginia is a real dark horse here.
- Cameron Riley, a linebacker from Alabama, is another of these out of state guys that A&M keeps pushing hard on for him to come see campus.
- Xavier Hill from Mississippi is a guy we haven't talked about much. His offer list is really good. He's got all of the big boys in the SEC west.
- The offensive line is key for A&M right now. I think a lot of the commits are going to come to camp and work out for Henson.
- I think Akinola Ogunbiyi will visit for some one-on-one time, not for a camp. But he's done all of the right things as far as his commitment to Georgia. He's even tried to recruit Zach Evans to Georgia.
- I've closed the book on Zach Evans. He told me he had no plans to come visit and kept A&M out of his top 5.
- Talking about grown men in general and Texas fans specifically regarding Zach Evans leaving Texas out of his top 5, you cannot act that way. People get so emotional and act bipolar over the decision of a 17 year old. It's hypocritical. The same thing is going on with the Bru McCoy thing. Just let the coaches do what they're supposed to do.
- Did USC probably talk to Bru McCoy while he was at Texas? Yeah, they probably did. But I guarantee that both sides don't want the mess surrounding this whole situation to come out.
- A&M made Sam Adams' top six without him even making a visit. It would be really advantageous for A&M to get him in here in an official capacity. Especially with his dad being a legend here. A&M would roll out the red carpet for him. Washington is the only school in the Pacific Northwest in his top six. And if he stays up there, I'll get it. I think with Sam Adams' son, he's been in that area his whole life and if he picks Washington, I don't think A&M fans will be too upset.
- Marco Domio is taking some SEC road trips. We got word last week that he was going to slow things down.
- The best still offensive player in the class of 2020 that I've seen are: Demond Demas. Duh. Devon Achane. Duh. I really like Tre Bradford from Lancaster. A&M is very interested in him.
- If you get Sam Adams, Seth McGowan and Tre Bradford, that's a very good running back haul. Bradford is a pure running back and he can really run.
- The best offensively line I've seen are Garrett Hayes and we are splitting hairs among Chad Lindberg and Jaylen Garth. I like Akinola Ogunbiyi a lot still. He's in an offense that's hard to project him but the tools are there for him to be an outstanding offensive lineman.
- On the defensive line, the best player in 2020 is Princely Umanmielen. He has just lived in the weight room. Princely is going to get a big time bump when we update our rankings tomorrow. He reminds me a little bit of a Jayden Peevy.
- I think, skill wise, Seth McGowan and Sam Adams are very equal. You'd be happy with either one. A&M is behind on both right now.
- A&M is behind Oklahoma for Seth McGowan. Kendall Milton and Zach Evans both have OU in their top five. Jase McClellan from Aledo is committed to OU. They're not getting all of those guys. They're going to have to push for someone to take that last spot. I think ultimately Zach Evans is going to be in the SEC.
- There is room for A&M to take one of Seth McGowan or Sam Adams, Devon Achane and Tre Bradford from Lancaster. They haven't offered Tre Bradford yet but A&M is very high on him.
