Texas A&M point guard Chennedy Carter has opted to forgo her senior season in Aggieland to enter the 2020 WNBA draft. The three-time All-American made the announcement on Sunday via her Twitter account.

In her post, Carter wrote: “It saddens me that I was not able to chase a national championship with my teammates this year due to circumstances beyond our control. Although a difficult decision, I am looking forward to pursuing my childhood dream of playing in the WNBA.”

This closes the book on one of the greatest careers in program history. Carter will undoubtedly go down as one of the best to ever don the Maroon & White — if not the best — and she has the numbers to back it up.

When the 2019-2020 season came to an unceremonious end, Carter sat just seven points shy of overtaking Courtney Walker (1,989) as the program’s all-time scoring leader. With 1,983 points in three seasons, Carter was closing in on the exclusive 2,000 point club.

“We support Chennedy [Carter] in this decision,” said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair. “Chennedy has done as much for Texas A&M in her career as any young lady that has played here. We believe she will be chosen high in the first round of the WNBA Draft, and will represent Texas A&M, her teammates, coaches and family in a way that will make everyone proud.”

Carter finished her career by scoring double-digit points in a program-record 62 consecutive games. She also holds A&M records for 20-point games (62) and 30-point games (12). Carter ranks inside the top ten in a host of other statistical categories.

“Lastly, to the fans of Aggieland thank you for your unwavering support, love and generosity,” Carter wrote. “Playing in front of you all is indescribable. Once an Aggie, always an Aggie.”

Carter is set to become the 14th Aggie to be selected in the WNBA draft, which will be held virtually on April 17 at 6:00 p.m. CT and can be viewed on ESPN.
